PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Josiah Hunter (ranked 4429 p4p, 4072 weight class) and Vinicius Fontes (ranked 350 p4p, 324 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunter gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Fontes misses with a hook. Hunter ducked under it nicely.
Hunter throws a right hand that misses
and Fontes counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Hunter throws a lazy uppercut
letting Fontes counter with a right hand.

Hunter drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hunter in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hunter controlling from the top position.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Hunter trying to control but Fontes is working from the bottom.
Fontes tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hunter working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Fontes's head.
Fontes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hunter. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Fontes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hunter is one step ahead there.
Fontes wants to get back to his feet but Hunter is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hunter tries to free his leg and advance position but Fontes is retaining full guard.

Hunter postures up and lands a big shot to Fontes's brow.
Fontes is looking to stand up but Hunter isn't so interested in that idea.
Hunter throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Fontes works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hunter trying to control the position from guard on top but Fontes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hunter stops Fontes from standing up.
Fontes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Hunter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Fontes escapes and gets back to his feet.
Hunter looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Hunter gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Fontes counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Hunter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Fontes as he avoids it easily.
Fontes catches Hunter with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Fontes pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Hunter back to the cage. Fontes follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Fontes has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Fontes feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Hunters jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Hunter is breathing heavily.
Fontes grits his teeth and throws a big right-left combo! Hunter takes both shots clean on the chin and is out cold! Fontes cracks him once more on his way down, as the crowd goes wild! They enjoyed that one!
