PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brian Jones (ranked 4565 p4p, 4345 weight class) and Ilias Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khan has chosen Rolando - Dusty Locane as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brian Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ilias Khan!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Khan swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ilias Khan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Khan lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Jones swats away the attempt to clinch by Khan.

Khan gets tackled into the cage by Jones. Jones maintains the clinch.

Jones decides to pull guard.

Khan decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Khan swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Jones counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Jones gets control of Khan's arms and successfully pulls guard. Jones will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Khan wants to get up but he can't break Jones's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Jones throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Khan wants to stand but Jones is controlling his posture from full guard.
Khan is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Jones tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Khan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Jones has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Khan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jones moves away.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Jones clinches with his opponent.
Jones jumps guard but Khan turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Jones tries a body shot but Khan blocks it.
Khan looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Khan is trying to break the clinch but Jones is controlling him.
Jones lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Khan.
Khan tries to break the clinch but Jones is controlling the position.

Khan is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Jones lands with a light punch inside.

Jones jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Khan walks away with a smile on his face. Jones gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Khan paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Khan tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.
Khan misses with a double jab.
Jones was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Khan throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jones.
Khan looks winded!

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jones decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Khan doesn't manage to clinch there - Jones circles away.

Jones shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jones was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jones is staying tight to Khan's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Jones's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Jones seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Khan for as long as he can get away with.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Khan throws a series of strikes that have Jones backpedaling.
Ilias Khan seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Jones is trying hard to land a takedown here. Khan sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Jones decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Jones moves nicely into side control.

Jones is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Khan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Khan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Jones's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Khan stands and steps away. Jones gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Khan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Khan wants to clinch up but Jones keeps it at a distance.
Khan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jones manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Khan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jones tries to avoid it but Khan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jones to the ground. Jones escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

A frustrated look appears on Khan's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Jones is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Khan can do to turn this around?

Khan tries to keep at a distance but Jones has taken the fight into the clinch.
Khan is trying to push Jones away but Jones has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Jones jumps guard but Khan turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Jones breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Khan misses with a wild combination.
Khan throws a series of strikes that have Jones backpedaling.

Jones closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Khan is looking to escape.

Jones is working for a kimura but Khan is defending it quite comfortably.
Jones controlling the pace.
Ilias Khan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Jones wants to free his trapped foot but Khan is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jones content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brian Jones showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jones, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
