Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jim Smithers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Poe Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smithers kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Metallica - No Leaf Clover. Jim Smithers has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jim Smithers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Poe Edgar! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smithers slips a straight right by Edgar. Smithers drives through and clinches with Edgar against the cage.

It looks like Poe Edgar has been cut. Smithers content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Edgar fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Smithers manages to avoid it. Edgar misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Edgar swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Smithers displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Edgar throws out the jab. Smithers is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Smithers scores a takedown into full mount!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Smithers postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Edgar looks a forlorn figure.
Smithers prevents Edgar from getting the reversal. Smithers landing strikes from the mount. Smithers lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Edgar is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Smithers lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Smithers lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Smithers pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Smithers working the ground and pound effectively.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Edgar is desperately trying to improve his position but Smithers has a good base and remains in mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smithers unloading with bombs! Edgar can't escape the position.

Smithers with shots to the head and body - Edgar looks very uncomfortable down there. Smithers lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Edgar slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Edgar looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Edgar looks gassed! Edgar is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Smithers pulls his head out easily.

Edgar is staying active underneath Smithers, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Edgar on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. That's four minutes gone in the round. Smithers takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Smithers lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Edgar is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Smithers scores with a couple of nice shots. Smithers working Edgar over with strikes. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Smithers connects with a nice short shot to Edgar's temple. Smithers drops an elbow to the side of Edgar's head. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Smithers decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Edgar pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Edgar jabbing away but nothing is landing. Smithers slips a jab from Edgar. Edgar throws a right and a left that both miss. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jim Smithers dominated that round. The cut man is working on Poe Edgar's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Edgar with a nice cross. Smithers lands with an overhand left. Smithers stuns Edgar with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Smithers checks a low kick from Edgar. Smithers feints and as Edgar raises his hands in defense, Smithers changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Edgar throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Edgar has momentary wrist control but Smithers slips an elbow through the middle. Smithers is in close to Edgar's body, working some short punches and elbows. Edgar is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Smithers defends well. Edgar keeping moving, preventing Smithers from controlling successfully. Smithers distracts Edgar with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Edgar is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smithers landing some decent shots from guard. Smithers wants to control from the top but Edgar keeps moving. Edgar looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Smithers is defending well. Edgar quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Smithers has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Edgar celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
