PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vedran Mihaljevic (ranked 2329 p4p, 3303 weight class) and King Ipitan (ranked 279 p4p, 382 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vedran Mihaljevic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, King Ipitan!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Viktor Lagutenko and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mihaljevic jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

It looks like King Ipitan has been cut.
Ipitan takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Ipitan ducks under a wild hook from Mihaljevic.
Ipitan throws a fast counter high kick but Mihaljevic manages to duck under it in time.
Ipitan avoids the body shot from Mihaljevic.
Ipitan is looking for the big counter here.
Ipitan drops his hands momentarily and Mihaljevic takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Ipitan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mihaljevic, pushing him back against the cage.
Mihaljevic digs a right hand into Ipitan's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Ipitan's gas tank.
Mihaljevic throws a punch but it's blocked by Ipitan.
Mihaljevic working some nice short punches in the clinch.

That has opened up King Ipitan's cut even more.
Mihaljevic lands a hook to the side of the head.
Ipitan lands a right hand that snaps the head of Mihaljevic backwards.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ipitan blocks an uppercut.
Mihaljevic softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.

Mihaljevic breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mihaljevic jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Ipitan wants to counter the offense by Mihaljevic and move into the clinch position.

Ipitan moves into range and clinches up with Mihaljevic.
Ipitan is trying to break free.
Ipitan blocking some punches.

Ipitan breaks the clinch.
Mihaljevic lands a jab to Ipitan's midsection.
Mihaljevic throws a big shot that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A telegraphed right hand from Mihaljevic misses the target.
We've been told by Mihaljevic's head coaches at Roosters Coop that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Mihaljevic fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Ipitan manages to avoid it.
Nice defenses there by Ipitan.
Mihaljevic scores with a hook.
Mihaljevic throws out a loose jab but Ipitan uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mihaljevic misses with a two punch combination.
Mihaljevic keeps the fight on the outside.
A swing and a miss from Mihaljevic.
Ipitan tries to clinch but Mihaljevic is having none of it.
Ipitan scores with a hook to the body. Mihaljevic takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Mihaljevic connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

The cut above King Ipitan's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Good standup being displayed there by Ipitan as he connects with a hook.

It looks like Vedran Mihaljevic has been cut.

Ipitan has closed the distance and engaged Mihaljevic in a clinch.
Mihaljevic misses with the head strike.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mihaljevic escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mihaljevic lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Ipitan at a distance.
Good exchange - Mihaljevic coming out on top.
A telegraphed right hand from Mihaljevic misses the target.

Ipitan closes the distance and clinches.
Ipitan wants to get back to striking at distance but Mihaljevic won't allow it.

Ipitan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Ipitan has closed the distance and engaged Mihaljevic in a clinch.
Mihaljevic blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Mihaljevic tries to work over Ipitan's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Ipitan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Mihaljevic blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Mihaljevic lands a body punch in the clinch.
Mihaljevic lands with a left to the head.

King Ipitan's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Ipitan misses with a knee to the head.

Ipitan breaks from the clinch.
Ipitan ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
A jab lands there for Mihaljevic.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at King Ipitan's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Vedran Mihaljevic!
Vedran Mihaljevic decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
