PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arman Brown (ranked 1525 p4p, 3072 weight class) and Cole Steel (ranked 235 p4p, 457 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Arman Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of London, Cole Steel!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Steel throws a series of punches but Brown avoids them all with ease.
Brown turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Steel misses with a straight left.
Steel misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Brown.
Brown lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Steel scores with a shot to the body.
Steel just misses with a punch to the body.
Steel throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Steel lands a two punch combo.

Brown throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Steel tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Brown is in Steel's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Brown tries to free his leg and advance position but Steel is retaining full guard.
Brown has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Steel pulls Brown in close to prevent any damage.

Brown drops back, looking for a kneebar! Steel looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Steel looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Steel!

Brown is trying to escape the position but Steel is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brown tries to bench press Steel off him but Steel keeps the position.
Steel is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Brown's shoulder. That is not cool.
Steel advances to mount.
Steel takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Brown is squirming around, avoiding Steel's attempts to control the action.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Brown tries to reverse the position but Steel maintains control.
Steel sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Steel's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Steel trying to control but Brown is having none of it.
Steel controlling the pace for now.
Brown looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!

Brown is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Steel gets his way!
I would not like to be Brown right now.
Steel doesn't have the hooks in and Brown manages to turn into his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brown drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Brown jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Steel is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Brown defends well.

Cole Steel dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Steel misses the shot to the body.
Steel throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Brown throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Steel lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Steel stuns Brown with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Steel looks to score with a jab to the body but Brown is just out of range.
Steel moves into range and connects with a jab.
Steel takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Steel throws a body shot but no joy.
Cole Steel seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Brown throws a hook to the side of Steel's head but Steel sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Brown misses with a hook.
Brown takes a shot right to the bread basket.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Steel throws a series of punches but Brown avoids them all with ease.
A solid leg kick lands there for Brown.
Cole Steel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sloppy strikes from Steel. Those never looked like landing.

A lazy left from Brown finds it's target.
Brown throws a poor cross that misses
and Steel counters with a nice body shot.
Steel missing with a left hand there. Brown was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Steel looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Brown is fending him off so far but Steel persists. Nope, Brown circles away and we're back to standing.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Steel has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Brown can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Steel pulls Brown in close to his closed guard and prevents Brown from doing any damage or advancing position.

Brown stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Steel swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Brown closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Brown is looking for a kimura but Steel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Brown to get the leverage.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Steel cracks a nice hook into Brown's ribs.
Steel throws an overhand right that lands on Brown's shoulder, as Brown tries to avoid the shot.
Steel scores with a hook to the body. Brown takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Steel swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Steel is looking to control Brown's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Steel avoid being mounted?
Steel felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brown is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Steel is just riding it out for now. Brown eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Steel manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Brown manages to get himself to full guard.

Steel not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Let's hope that Steel has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Steel throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Steel passes the guard and advances to mount!
Brown is looking to improve his position but Steel isn't that keen on the idea.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Cole Steel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Steel winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
