PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tatu Kurri (ranked 3296 p4p, 4177 weight class) and Cayden Abner (ranked 484 p4p, 569 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Abner's choice of entrance music: Bulls On Parade. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 19 - 0, fighting out of London, Tatu Kurri!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cayden Abner!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Daniel Blasius and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurri fails with the takedown
and Abner counters with a right hand to the body.
Abner misses with a wild combination.
Kurri appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
No joy there for Abner, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Abner will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kurri darts in and clinches Abner up against the cage.

Abner just leaning against Kurri, taking a breather.

Abner breaks the clinch.

Abner closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kurri did well to prevent Abner getting side control.

Abner is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Kurri is not content to let Abner control the position.
Abner is thwarting Kurri's attempts to control the position.
Abner seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Kurri has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Abner is working away from the top position though.

Abner is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kurri defends it well.
Well, if Abner is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Kurri wants to control but Abner is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Kurri is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Abner's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kurri preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kurri tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Abner looks to throw the jab but Kurri is out of range.
Kurri drops down looking for a counter takedown but Abner sprawls and moves away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kurri looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
It seemed like Abner was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Kurri tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Abner paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Abner doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
A telegraphed right hand from Abner misses the target.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A chopping leg kick lands by Abner.

Abner shoots in and bounces Kurri off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Abner forces his way into half guard.
Abner not doing much here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Abner is looking to take a break and control but Kurri is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Abner is looking to advance position but Kurri won't allow it.
Abner moves nicely into side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Abner closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kurri's guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Kurri has his foot on Abner's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Abner works his way back into a safe position though.

Abner might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kurri haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Abner wants to control the pace but Kurri is squirming around nicely.

Cayden Abner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Abner is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Tatu Kurri has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Abner stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kurri swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Abner wants to stand but Kurri has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Abner gets to his feet. Kurri looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Abner throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Kurri appears to be looking for a big counter.

That kick from Abner tenderised Kurri's leg. Kurri is trying to keep his angry face on.
Abner throws a sloppy head kick and Kurri moves out of range easily.
Kurri feinted with a counter takedown.
A jab lands there for Abner.

Abner gets tackled into the cage by Kurri. Kurri maintains the clinch.

Abner gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Cayden Abner is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Abner controls from within his opponent's guard.

I've got Abner winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Cayden Abner decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
