PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zima Voin (ranked 3546 p4p, 4816 weight class) and Amarillo Brillo (ranked 387 p4p, 547 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 22 - 1, fighting out of New York, Zima Voin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Amarillo Brillo!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Chris Dean and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Voin manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Brillo on his heels. He'll look to pass Brillo's guard now, I'm sure.
Brillo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Brillo wants to improve his position but instead Voin has moved into half guard.
Brillo moves into full guard.

Brillo looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Voin has picked Brillo up and slammed him! Brillo can't keep hold of the triangle and Voin manages to pass to side control!
Brillo is trying to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Voin has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Voin seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Brillo for as long as he can get away with.
Brillo is trying to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Brillo is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Voin working away.
Voin just content to control the position.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Voin.
Brillo is looking to reverse the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Brillo darts in looking for a takedown but Voin gets double underhooks and turns Brillo into the cage.

Voin shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brillo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Voin with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Brillo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Voin is working away from the top position though.
Voin is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Brillo!
We've been hearing good reports from Voin's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Brillo is working to get back to half guard.
Brillo keeps trying to improve his position.

That's time! Voin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Brillo lands with a thumping leg kick.

Voin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Brillo seems a little lost for a moment, as Voin dominates the positioning.
Brillo tries to bench press Voin off him but Voin keeps the position.
A lull in the action here.
Brillo has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Voin continues to hold on tight.

Brillo tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Voin is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Brillo's shoulder. That is not cool.
Brillo tries to buck Voin off but Voin is having none of it.
Voin takes a little break here. Brillo wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Voin moves into the clinch.
Brillo blocks a body shot from Voin.
Brillo is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Voin pulls him back up using the underhooks.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Brillo with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Brillo tries to pull guard but Voin forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Brillo is fighting off a takedown attempt but Voin is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Brillo to the mat. Brillo regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Voin controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Brillo working a defensive guard but Voin manages to pass into side control anyway.
Brillo is breathing heavily.
Brillo is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Brillo trying to remain calm as Voin controls from the top position.

Voin working away.
Brillo is trying to improve his position.
Voin controls the position.
Brillo tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
You can see the frustration on Brillo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Voin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Voin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Brillo can do to turn this around?
Voin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Voin looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Voin content to control rather than advance.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Zima Voin dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Brillo ducks under a wild hook from Voin.
Brillo's corner calls for a 1-2. Brillo obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Voin tries to clinch but Brillo is having none of it.
Voin uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Brillo.
A slow jab from Brillo misses its intended target.
Voin attempts a counter takedown but Brillo avoids it well and moves away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Voin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Brillo swats away the attempt to clinch by Voin.
Brillo with the counter takedown but Voin avoids it easily.
Voin tries to close the distance and clinch but Brillo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Voin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Brillo, pushing him back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Voin lands a takedown into guard.
Voin is pushing down on Brillo's leg trying to pass to half guard. Brillo is fighting to maintain full guard but Voin has managed to sneak the leg through.
Voin works his way into full mount!

Voin sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Brillo wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Brillo trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Voin controls the position.
Brillo tries to break free.
Amarillo Brillo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Voin really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Brillo.
Brillo tries to escape but Voin has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Brillo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Voin keeps control of the position easily here as Brillo tries to buck him off.
Brillo is in bad spot here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Voin slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Brillo is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Voin has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Brillo's body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Voin continues to stall.

And that's the end of the fight!
Zima Voin showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Voin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
