PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Iso Paa (ranked 2240 p4p, 1562 weight class) and Jorlan Vieira (ranked 103 p4p, 92 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Iso Paa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jorlan Vieira!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paa moves out of range of the strikes.
Vieira throws a hook but Paa avoids it easily.
Vieira throws a right hand that misses
and Paa counters with a nice kick to the body.
Vieira misses with a lunging right hand
and Paa counters with an inside leg kick.
Paa thuds a left hand into Vieira's body.
Paa throws a head kick but Vieira moves out of range.
Vieira tries to counter with a clinch but Paa shakes him off and moves away.
Paa misses with a jab, cross combination.
Vieira throws a right hand that misses

and Paa counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Paa is just content to waste time from the top position. Vieira takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Paa throwing strikes but missing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Paa trying to control but Vieira is working from the bottom.

Paa is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Vieira is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Vieira has escaped and now he's on top!

Vieira wants to pass the guard but Paa is keeping the position.
Paa tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Paa manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Vieira manages to get himself to full guard.

Paa wants to control from the top but Vieira keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Paa passes into half guard.

Paa wants to work for an arm triangle but Vieira is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Vieira is trying to maintain the position but Paa is very close to passing his half guard.

Paa is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Vieira has managed to free his arm - good work.
Paa is just content to waste time from the top position. Vieira takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Paa drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Vieira manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Paa has Vieira in his guard.


Paa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vieira doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vieira manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Vieira postures up in Paa's guard and throws a big left but Paa blocks it.
Vieira looking to sit in guard and control but Paa gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vieira is pulling down on Paa's head. It's preventing any offense from Paa, at least for the moment.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Paa throws a sloppy head kick and Vieira moves out of range easily.

Vieira throws out a counter right but Paa avoids it with no problem.
Jorlan Vieira seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Vieira throws a lazy uppercut
and Paa counters with a right hand to the body.
Paa throws a body punch but Vieira moves out of range.
Vieira loads up on a big right hand but Paa slips the punch.
A counter left hand to the body from Paa misses its target.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Paa.

Paa is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Vieira is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Paa tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Paa wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Vieira, who protects the arm well.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

A lull in the action here as Paa stalls from top position.
Paa tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Paa is working hard here to advance position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Paa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Paa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Iso Paa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Paa wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vieira keeps working.

Paa is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Vieira knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Paa wants to control but Vieira is keeping him busy.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Vieira on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Vieira looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Paa tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Paa misses with a looping right.
Paa lands with an uppercut that bounces Vieira off the cage and back into range.
Paa throws a nice inside leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vieira thumps Paa with a low kick.
Paa throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Vieira looks to land a combination but Paa avoids it well.
Vieira looks to land a left hand but Paa moved out of range nicely.

Paa was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

Vieira is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Paa.
Vieira takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Paa lands a head shot.
Paa throws a body punch but Vieira moves out of range.
Iso Paa is winning the standup battle so far.

Paa feints and as Vieira raises his hands in defense, Paa changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Paa has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vieira can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Paa has gone for a leg lock! Vieira slips out almost immediately though and dives into Paa's guard.

Vieira drops back, looking for a kneebar! Paa looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Paa looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Paa!

Paa is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Vieira can do to turn this around?
Vieira is not content to let Paa control the position.

Paa thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Paa is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Vieira has escaped the position, nice work there.

Well Paa has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
