PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jovi Wolf (ranked 1453 p4p, 2459 weight class) and Kaven May Jr (ranked 200 p4p, 317 weight class). Wolf kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Shut em up. May Jr has chosen HonestKey- Self Discovery as his entrance music. Kaven May Jr will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jovi Wolf!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kaven May Jr!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wolf uses good head movement to avoid the hook from May Jr.
A counter left hand to the body from Wolf misses its target.
May Jr misses with a straight right.
Wolf looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
May Jr clobbers Wolf with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Wolf ducks down and throws a hook to the body but May Jr moves away.

Wolf scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Wolf works his foot free and advances to mount.
May Jr gets back to half guard.
Wolf stalling away here and it's allowed May Jr to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Wolf stands up over May Jr, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Wolf's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
May Jr looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Wolf has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Wolf got a little sloppy there for a moment and May Jr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wolf has managed to get both his arms back between May Jr's legs - danger averted.
May Jr is trying to keep Wolf in close.
Wolf won't allow May Jr to sweep him here.

May Jr has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wolf can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Wolf slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

May Jr had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wolf defends it easily.

May Jr has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Wolf is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for May Jr.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wolf in particular looking to stall.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
May Jr wants to control but Wolf is keeping busy.

May Jr tries to improve position but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

May Jr throws a body kick that misses.
No luck for Wolf with that takedown attempt.
May Jr lands with a kick to the temple. Wolf shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Wolf tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but May Jr was well out of range. Poor timing from Wolf.
Wolf walks forward, straight into a front kick from May Jr.
Wolf bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
May Jr throws a push kick but Wolf slaps the foot to one side.
Wolf lands a nice looking body shot.
May Jr lands a jab to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

May Jr throws a nice inside leg kick.
May Jr moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Wolf throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Wolf closes the distance but May Jr moves to the side
and May Jr counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
May Jr throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
May Jr jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Wolf feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Wolf is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wolf distracts May Jr with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
May Jr has momentary wrist control but Wolf slips an elbow through the middle.

Wolf passes May Jr's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wolf sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed May Jr's guard.
Wolf seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
May Jr tries to roll over but Wolf keeps him under control.
May Jr is staying active underneath Wolf, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
May Jr has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wolf is working away from the top position though.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Jovi Wolf overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
May Jr wants to improve his position but Wolf is controlling well.
Wolf is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wolf, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
