PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Nakachi Tadageru (ranked 485 p4p, 957 weight class) and Kotaro Asakura (ranked 35 p4p, 71 weight class). Asakura is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Venom by $ B. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nakachi Tadageru!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kotaro Asakura!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Jorge Garcia and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tadageru instigates a clinch.
Tadageru lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Tadageru looking for a takedown.
Asakura stops a takedown attempt from Tadageru.
Tadageru tries to score a body lock takedown but Asakura shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nakachi Tadageru. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Tadageru is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Asakura can't fight it off and eventually Tadageru manages to take the fight to the floor. Asakura looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Asakura really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tadageru. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Tadageru wants to control but Asakura is keeping him busy.
Asakura parries the strikes from Tadageru easily there. Tadageru is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Asakura to escape.

Tadageru looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Asakura with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Tadageru seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Asakura is trying to stand.
Tadageru takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Asakura felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Tadageru seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Tadageru is nestled in close to Asakura, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Asakura can do anything to dispel that myth.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Asakura is looking to escape.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Tadageru lands a nice short elbow.

and Asakura counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Tadageru gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Tadageru drops down looking for an ankle pick but Asakura pulls his leg out and moves away.

Tadageru tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Asakura paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Asakura looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Tadageru scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Tadageru is working for takedown but Asakura is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nakachi Tadageru. That's going to take a lot out of him.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Asakura is pressed up against the cage. Tadageru has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Asakura down to the mat. Asakura avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Tadageru moves in looking to clinch but Asakura pushes him off.
Tadageru looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Asakura darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Tadageru feints and as Asakura raises his hands in defense, Tadageru changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Asakura wants to stand and escape but Tadageru is having none of it.
Asakura is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

After winning the bout, Nakachi Tadageru thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
