Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Josiah Waters (ranked 4322 p4p, 4418 weight class) and Bekzhan Yerzhanov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Josiah Waters! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bekzhan Yerzhanov! The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Steve Erwin and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Yerzhanov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Waters pinned against the cage. Waters gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Waters wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Yerzhanov tries to clinch but Waters is having none of it. Yerzhanov keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Waters tries to clinch up but Yerzhanov circles away and keeps his distance. Waters is looking to clinch. Nice takedown defense from Waters. No joy for Yerzhanov on that attempt. Waters attempts a counter takedown but Yerzhanov avoids it well and moves away. Waters displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Yerzhanov. Josiah Waters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bekzhan Yerzhanov. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Yerzhanov fails in his attempt to clinch. Yerzhanov shoots in for a takedown but Waters shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Yerzhanov misses with a double jab
and Waters counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Waters. Yerzhanov working a defensive guard but Waters manages to pass into side control anyway.
That's one minute gone in the round. Waters remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Yerzhanov is trying to control Waters's posture but Waters avoids it. A lull in the action here. Waters working the ground and pound from side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Yerzhanov takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Waters advances nicely into full mount. Waters is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet! Waters tries to close the distance and clinch up but Yerzhanov swats him away and circles back towards the center. Yerzhanov gets off balance looking for a body kick and Waters counters with a takedown into side control. Waters lands a few punches from side control. Waters has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Waters tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Waters is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Yerzhanov knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Waters is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Waters in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Yerzhanov is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Josiah Waters! Josiah Waters tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
