Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jakob Rolf (ranked 230 p4p, 191 weight class) and Joad Cressbeckler (ranked 32 p4p, 30 weight class). Rolf comes to the cage accompanied by AVGN Theme Song. Cressbeckler has chosen American Remains as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rolf misses with a left hand
and Cressbeckler counters with a nice uppercut.

It looks like Jakob Rolf has been cut.
Rolf tries to clinch but Cressbeckler moves out of range.
Cressbeckler let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
We've been hearing reports that Rolf has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Rolf tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rolf is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cressbeckler knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Rolf wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cressbeckler, who protects the arm well.

Rolf wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cressbeckler keeps working.

Cressbeckler displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rolf.

Rolf tries to clinch up but Cressbeckler circles away and keeps his distance.

Rolf takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Cressbeckler has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Rolf is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Rolf misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Cressbeckler.
Rolf throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cressbeckler's waist but Cressbeckler gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rolf off to one side.
Rolf throws a jab but it's blocked by Cressbeckler.
Cressbeckler takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Rolf throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Cressbeckler stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Rolf throws out a loose jab but Cressbeckler uses good head movement to avoid it.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Cressbeckler! But no joy.
Rolf misses with a two punch combination.

and Cressbeckler counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jakob Rolf. That's going to take a lot out of him.
