PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 24464 p4p, 24381 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Way Nada was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 31 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 32 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Nada displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kiang.
Kiang shoots in looking for a takedown. Nada tries to sprawl out of it but Kiang keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nada manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang tries for a takedown but Nada sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yawa Kiang. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang closes the distance and clinches up with Nada, looking for a takedown. Kiang pushes Nada against the cage but Nada circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nada tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Nada shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Nada showed some decent athleticism there.
Kiang tries to roll over but Nada keeps him under control.
Nada content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Kiang controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kiang trying to hold on to Nada's head to control him but Nada postures up.
Nada is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Nada sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Kiang defending well though.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang controlling the position well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Nada is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kiang sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kiang.
Nada is looking to regain half guard here but Kiang keeps moving and retains side control.
Kiang takes a little break here. Nada wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nada is trying to control Kiang's posture but Kiang avoids it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kiang happy to just control the position for now.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Way Nada dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Nada stuffs the takedown attempt from Kiang. Kiang gets slowly back to his feet.

Nada bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang struggling a bit here.
Nada controlling the position from side mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nada with the ground and pound but Kiang regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Nada is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Kiang wants to control but Nada is keeping busy.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Kiang fails to land the takedown.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Nada scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Nada takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Kiang has his hands clasped together around Nada's back. He's all about the action.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kiang throws a strike from the bottom but Nada passes into side control!
Way Nada has got the better of the ground game so far.
Nada taking a breather here.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kiang is trying to control Nada's posture but Nada avoids it.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Way Nada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Nada shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kiang but Kiang pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A counter left hand to the body from Kiang misses its target.
Kiang shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Nada as he jumps to the side.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang stuffs the takedown attempt from Nada. Nada gets slowly back to his feet.
Kiang is looking to counter with a body kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nada shoots in but Kiang avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.
Kiang fails with the takedown.
Nada shoots in but no luck this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Nada shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Nada controlling from the top position.
Nada trying to control but Kiang is working from the bottom.
Kiang managing to control the position.
Nada has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Nada accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kiang keeping moving, preventing Nada from controlling successfully.
Kiang is pulling down on Nada's head. It's preventing any offense from Nada, at least for the moment.
Nada throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kiang works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Nada misses with a takedown attempt - Kiang sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kiang drops down looking for a counter takedown but Nada sprawls and moves away.
Yawa Kiang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Way Nada is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kiang closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Nada's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Yawa Kiang.
Well Nada has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
