Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Brown (ranked 3826 p4p, 4444 weight class) and Kevin Slay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnny Brown! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kevin Slay! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brown avoids the head kick by Slay.
Slay misses with a jab to the body
and Brown counters with a two punch combo. Brown lands an overhand right. Slay avoids a kick to the body.

and Slay counters with a left and a right that stings Brown. Brown throws a combination. Slay tries to block but a couple of punches get through. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Brown gets a clinch. Brown breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Slay's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Brown throws a right and a left that both miss. Johnny Brown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Slay lands a big head kick that sends Brown tumbling to the mat! Slay takes a step backwards and waves Brown back to his feet - he wants the finish! A punch combination from Slay misses. Slay throws a head kick that misses and Brown counters by moving into the clinch. Slay breaks the clinch.

Brown feints and as Slay raises his hands in defense, Brown changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Brown is looking to work some ground and pound but Slay has wrist control. Brown really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Brown is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Brown postures up in Slay's guard and throws a big left but Slay blocks it. Brown with a flurry of punches that miss. Brown trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Slay is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Brown is controlling him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Brown has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Brown pushing down on Slay's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Slay really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brown. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Brown not landing any meaningful shots this time. Slay blocking the ground and pound attempt from Brown. Brown thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Slay tries to kick Brown off in order to stand up. Brown Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control. Brown sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Slay is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
A lull in the action here as Brown stalls from top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Slay is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Brown asserts his dominance and retains side control. Brown cracks Slay with a big elbow. Brown grinds an elbow into Slay's temple. An elbow from Brown crashes against the mat.

Brown throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Brown controlling the action here. Slay pushes Brown off but Brown dives into side control.

Johnny Brown dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Brown looks to land a combination. Slay sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Brown feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Brown in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Brown slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Brown lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Slay is looking to stand up but Brown isn't so interested in that idea. Johnny Brown overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Slay wants to get back to his feet but Brown passes into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Brown throws a nice looking combination but Slay bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Slay appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. A momentary lapse in concentration from Slay enables Brown to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Slay manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Brown postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Brown throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Brown stops Slay from standing up. Slay can't keep his opponent in guard - Brown advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Brown not landing any meaningful shots this time. A head kick from Slay lands but Brown takes it in his stride. Slay tries to sprawl but Brown drives through with a takedown into half guard. Slay avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Brown. Still in half guard, Brown seems content to control. Slay blocking the ground and pound attempt from Brown. Brown is controlling the pace.

Brown wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Slay, who protects the arm well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Brown tries for a kimura but Slay is defending well. Slay parries the strikes from Brown easily there. Brown is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Slay to escape.
Brown throws an elbow but Slay slips to the side and avoids it well. Brown working the head with strikes. Brown tries to score with some ground and pound. Slay controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Slay tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Brown controlling from mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Brown punching from mount but Slay doing a good job of avoiding damage. Brown throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Slay because Brown loaded up on that one. Poor strikes thrown by Brown there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Brown misses with a head shot. Kevin Slay has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Johnny Brown is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Brown working for a submission but Slay is keeping him at bay.
And that's the end of the fight! Johnny Brown showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Brown, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
