PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kenjiro Tokugawa (ranked 2888 p4p, 2484 weight class) and Moshe Weiss (ranked 362 p4p, 320 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kenjiro Tokugawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Moshe Weiss!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Aleksandr Martynov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tokugawa thuds his shin into the meat of Weiss's side.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Weiss has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Weiss lands a head shot.

It looks like Kenjiro Tokugawa has been cut.
Tokugawa tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Weiss manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
And Weiss tries to counter it with a takedown but Tokugawa pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Tokugawa throws a head kick but Weiss moves out of range.
Weiss closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
A big left from Weiss misses.
Tokugawa half committed to a counter leg kick.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Tokugawa.
Weiss drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Tokugawa defends it well.

Weiss gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Tokugawa trying to control but Weiss is working from the bottom.

Weiss's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Tokugawa controls from within his opponent's guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Tokugawa in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Weiss fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tokugawa manages to avoid it.
No luck for Weiss with that takedown attempt.
A jab from Weiss misses.

Weiss is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Tokugawa's half guard.
Weiss trying to control the action but Tokugawa is working from the bottom.
Tokugawa is looking for a sweep. Weiss is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Weiss is pressing down on Tokugawa's thigh, looking to free his foot. Tokugawa is holding on for now.

Weiss is thwarting Tokugawa's attempts to control the position.
Tokugawa keeping hold of Weiss's head, controlling as best he can.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A head kick misses from Tokugawa.
Tokugawa tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Weiss manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Weiss swats away the attempt to clinch by Tokugawa.
Weiss jabs at Tokugawa's body.
Weiss connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Weiss ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Tokugawa moves away.
Weiss looks to land a right hand but Tokugawa moved out of range.

Tokugawa avoids the body shot from Weiss.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Weiss digs a good hook to Tokugawa's body.
Tokugawa on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Weiss scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Tokugawa doesn't seem bothered though.
A nice leg kick from Tokugawa, right into the meat of the thigh.

Weiss steps into range and cracks Tokugawa with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Tokugawa flops backwards and Weiss dives into his guard looking to finish!

Tokugawa is still looking wobbly from the end of the last round!
Weiss engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Oh Tokugawa is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Weiss passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Tokugawa seems to have got his legs back now.
Tokugawa tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Weiss wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Tokugawa is looking to reverse the position.
Tokugawa holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
Tokugawa tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Weiss tries to advance to mount but can't.
Tokugawa is looking to regain half guard here but Weiss keeps moving and retains side control.

Weiss looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Weiss trying to control the position but Tokugawa is working away.
Weiss advances to full mount.

Weiss moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Tokugawa has worked his arm free - good work by Tokugawa!

Weiss tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Weiss has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Weiss moves into full mount!
Tokugawa really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Weiss trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Tokugawa tries to lock up and control but Weiss gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Moshe Weiss has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Tokugawa is in all sorts of trouble here.
Weiss trying to control but Tokugawa is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tokugawa regains half guard.
Weiss has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Weiss trying to control the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Moshe Weiss showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Weiss fails in his attempt to clinch.
Tokugawa uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Weiss.
An attempted straight right counter from Tokugawa misses the target.
Weiss throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Tokugawa stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Weiss lands a body shot.
Moshe Weiss seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Tokugawa lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
A shot to the liver by Weiss. Beautiful body shot.
Weiss swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Tokugawa walks into a left hand.
Weiss slips under a jab from Tokugawa.
Weiss scores with a body shot.
Weiss misses the shot to the body.
Tokugawa keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Tokugawa tries a head kick but it misses.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Weiss manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Tokugawa on his heels. He'll look to pass Tokugawa's guard now, I'm sure.
Weiss is standing up over Tokugawa. Tokugawa looks to escape but Weiss dives into side control.

Weiss content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Weiss is looking to take a break and control but Tokugawa is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Weiss is staying tight to Tokugawa's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Kenjiro Tokugawa has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Weiss has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Tokugawa!
Weiss wants to take Tokugawa's back here but Tokugawa is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Tokugawa tries to hold on but Weiss postures up.
Weiss seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Tokugawa is holding on tight.

Weiss goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Tokugawa is on top in guard.
Tokugawa postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Tokugawa working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Weiss is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Weiss utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Tokugawa landing some decent shots from guard.
Tokugawa will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Tokugawa throws a big elbow that misses.
Moshe Weiss is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tokugawa loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Tokugawa drops back looking for a leg! Weiss is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Weiss manages to kick Tokugawa off! Tokugawa jumps back into Weiss's guard.

Moshe Weiss comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Weiss has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Moshe Weiss spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
