PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Miura Guts (ranked 2148 p4p, 2139 weight class) and Liam Higgins (ranked 74 p4p, 113 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Liam Higgins was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Miura Guts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Liam Higgins!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Dillan Fox and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Higgins misses the shot to the body.
Guts jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Higgins lands a jab to the head.
Higgins lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Guts at a distance.
A cross from Higgins lands.

It looks like Miura Guts has been cut.
Good shot there by Higgins.
Guts bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Guts takes one to the side of the head.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Higgins enables Guts to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Higgins manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Guts tries to free his leg and advance position but Higgins is retaining full guard.
Higgins preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Higgins can do anything to dispel that myth.
Higgins wants to get back to his feet but Guts is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Higgins prevents Guts from improving his position.

Higgins got a little sloppy there for a moment and Guts has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Higgins has managed to get both his arms back between Guts's legs - danger averted.

A close round but Liam Higgins will probably get the nod.

That's time! Guts's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Higgins looks to throw the jab but Guts is out of range.
Guts blocks a head kick by Higgins.
Guts tried to counter with a leg kick but Higgins avoided it.
Guts throws a hook to the side of Higgins's head but Higgins sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

and Guts connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Guts takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Guts avoids a kick to the body.
Guts thinks about countering with a body kick.
Higgins misses the shot to the body.
Higgins connects with a good right hand that stumbles Guts. Guts circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Higgins has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Higgins swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Liam Higgins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Guts goes for a double leg but Higgins avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Higgins continues to drive forward.

Higgins escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Guts moves out of range as Higgins strikes.
Higgins misses with a combination
and Guts counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Guts fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Higgins looks to throw the jab but Guts is out of range.
Guts half committed to a counter leg kick.
Guts scores with a shot to the body.
Higgins displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Guts throws out the jab.
Higgins ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Higgins scores with a sloppy right hand. Guts should have avoided that one.

Oh, that's a big right hand from Higgins and Guts goes tumbling to the canvas! Higgins follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.

Miura Guts overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Higgins wants to stand and escape but Guts is having none of it.

Guts cracks Higgins with a solid left hand.
Guts missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Guts passes Higgins's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Guts looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Guts works his way into side control.

Guts wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Higgins, who protects the arm well.

Guts is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Higgins knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Higgins explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Guts.

Liam Higgins is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Guts closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Guts lands in his opponent's guard.

Higgins won't allow Guts to pass to mount.

Guts not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Guts throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Guts is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Higgins can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Guts throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Higgins because Guts loaded up on that one.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Guts is landing with some decent strikes but Higgins is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

That was a close second round but I would say that Miura Guts will probably get the nod.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Higgins misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Guts.

Higgins throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Guts on the side of the head.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Guts looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Higgins has picked Guts up and slammed him! Guts can't keep hold of the triangle and Higgins manages to pass to side control!

Higgins stands up.
Guts takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Guts drives through with a takedown into Higgins's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Guts is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Higgins is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Higgins has escaped and now he's on top!

Guts wants to pass the guard but Higgins is keeping the position.
Higgins avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Guts passes into half guard.
Guts tries to pass the half guard into mount. Higgins knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Guts moves nicely into side control.
Guts landing strikes.

And that's the end of the fight!
Liam Higgins comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Higgins has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
