PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Reggie Charles (ranked 2511 p4p, 24644 weight class) and Horus Anubis (ranked 328 p4p, 600 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Reggie Charles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Horus Anubis!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anubis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Charles was well out of range. Poor timing from Anubis.
An attempted straight right counter from Charles misses the target.
Anubis bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Anubis throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Charles sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Charles pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Charles goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Anubis scores with the left hand. Charles knows he should have avoided that one.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Anubis has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

and Charles counters with a stiff right hand.
Charles pivots, looking for a leg kick but Anubis is out of range and Charles settles back down.
Charles dodges the punch combination from Anubis.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Charles throws a lazy uppercut
and Anubis counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Charles throws a hook but Anubis avoids it easily.
Charles slips under a jab.
Charles bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Anubis waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Charles.
Anubis keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Anubis appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Charles connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Charles changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Anubis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Anubis is looking for a sweep.
Charles creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Anubis sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Anubis is trying to escape the position but Charles is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Anubis struggling a bit here.
We've been hearing that Charles has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Anubis is trying to control but Charles is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.
Charles tries to hold on but Anubis pushes him away.

Charles is squirming around, avoiding Anubis's attempts to control the action.
Charles is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Anubis trying to control but Charles is having none of it.
Charles tries to control Anubis's body but Anubis pushes him off. Charles squirms to his side and now Anubis has his back!
Charles is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Charles breaks Anubis's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Anubis is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Charles has his hands clasped together but Anubis extends and breaks Charles's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Anubis.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Horus Anubis!
