This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 10 wins and 6 losses; Gul Dukat! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Helsinki, with a TWGC record of 40 wins and 25 losses; Bo Nickal! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Emerson Jorge and Alexandre Firmino.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Dukat. Nickal has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Dukat drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Dukat (4) vs (0) Nickal Dukat just content to control the position. Dukat is looking to take a break and control but Nickal is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nickal tries to buck Dukat off but Dukat is having none of it. Dukat controlling from side mount. Dukat passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Nickal! Score +2 for reaching mount: Dukat (6) vs (0) Nickal Dukat tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Dukat has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Dukat seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nickal for as long as he can get away with.

Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Nickal regains half guard there - taking advantage of Dukat's attempt to lay and pray for a moment. Nickal is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Nickal tries to roll over but Dukat keeps him under control. Dukat wants to control but Nickal is keeping him busy.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Nickal slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Nickal working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dukat doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dukat manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. That's eight minutes gone in the round. Nickal manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Dukat (15) vs (2) Nickal Dukat desperately trying to maintain half guard. Dukat trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Nickal manages to pass to mount!
Score +3 for passing guard: Dukat (15) vs (5) Nickal Nickal tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Dukat tries to get back to half guard but can't. Dukat is working hard here to advance position. Nickal wants to take his opponent's back but Dukat doesn't allow it. Dukat regains half guard. Dukat wants to improve his position but Nickal is controlling well.
Nickal is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Nickal is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Nickal wants to take a breather but Dukat is having none of it. Dukat is trying to control but can't.
Dukat is refusing to be controlled, as Nickal sits in half guard. Dukat is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Nickal pulls his head out easily.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Dukat gets back to full guard.
Dukat looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Dukat is trying to hold Nickal in close to prevent damage but Nickal has managed to pass into half guard.
Dukat is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Dukat wants to get back to full guard but Nickal has mounted him! Score +3 for passing guard: Dukat (15) vs (8) Nickal Nickal trying to control but Dukat is having none of it. Nickal takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Dukat slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Nickal is the more experienced fighter here and he's going to need to draw on some of that experience if he's going to pull this one out the bag. Dukat has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Nickal is working away from the top position though.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Dukat keeping control of the position. Dukat tries to roll over but Nickal keeps him under control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Nickal wants to control but Dukat is keeping him busy. Dukat trying to hold on to Nickal's head to control him but Nickal postures up.

That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Dukat is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Nickal works his way into side control. Score +3 for passing guard: Dukat (15) vs (11) Nickal Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! You can see the frustration on Dukat's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Dukat is trying to get back to half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Dukat takes the fight on points by 15 to 11. Gul Dukat decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way. |
