Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Julius Benedict (ranked 2640 p4p, 5646 weight class) and Tommy Weismuller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Benedict comes into the arena with Twins blaring out of the sound system. Weismuller has chosen The Nosebleed Section by Hilltop Hoods as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Julius Benedict! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 15 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tommy Weismuller! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Benedict thows a left - swing and a miss! Weismuller closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Benedict's guard. The fighters are working up against the cage. Benedict manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. Weismuller is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Benedict pulls him back up using the underhooks. Benedict swings wildly with an uppercut but Weismuller uses good head movement to avoid it. Weismuller is looking for a takedown. We've been informed that Weismuller has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Benedict prevents a takedown attempt there.

It looks like Tommy Weismuller has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Weismuller is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Benedict is defending well. Benedict misses with a punch on the inside.

Benedict is pressed up against the cage. Weismuller has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Benedict down to the mat. Benedict avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Benedict has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Cobra Kai Workout Center in the buildup to the fight. Benedict avoids a kick to the body.
A slow jab from Benedict misses its intended target. Tommy Weismuller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Weismuller slips a jab from Benedict. Weismuller shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Benedict as he avoids it easily. Benedict is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Benedict thumps Weismuller with a low kick. Weismuller changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Benedict looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Benedict tries to bench press Weismuller off him but Weismuller keeps the position. Weismuller stands up and beckons Benedict to his feet. Weismuller ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Nice shot lands for Benedict. Weismuller throws the kick towards the body but Benedict avoids it. Weismuller uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Benedict.

Julius Benedict is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Benedict scores with a hook to the body. Weismuller takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Weismuller throws a sloppy head kick and Benedict moves out of range easily. A counter left hand to the body from Benedict misses its target. Benedict throws a hook but Weismuller blocks it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Weismuller dives in and grabs Benedict's left leg, looking for a takedown. Benedict pushes down on Weismuller's head and hops out. Benedict lands with a good body shot. Weismuller is trying hard to land a takedown here. Benedict sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Weismuller looks winded! Weismuller fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Weismuller misses with a takedown attempt and Benedict counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Weismuller misses with a head kick.
Benedict jabs at Weismuller's body. Benedict lands a lovely overhand right. Benedict throws a body shot but no joy. Benedict tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Weismuller manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Benedict drops Weismuller with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Weismuller looks back up at him and smiles so Benedict waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Weismuller is rocked!
That has opened up Tommy Weismuller's cut even more. Benedict ducks down and throws a big overhand right - it lands flush on the jaw, knocking Weismuller out cold! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Julius Benedict! In his post fight interview, Julius Benedict started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
