PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Abee Shake (ranked 4508 p4p, 3146 weight class) and Yair Rodiguez (ranked 0 p4p, 188 weight class). Rodiguez has chosen First Day Out as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Abee Shake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Yair Rodiguez!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shake keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Shake stuffs the takedown attempt from Rodiguez. Rodiguez gets slowly back to his feet.
Rodiguez goes for a double leg but Shake avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Shake continues to drive forward.
As Rodiguez looks to move away, Shake throws a big counter combo but Rodiguez just gets out of the way.
Abee Shake has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yair Rodiguez.
Rodiguez lands a nice looking body kick.

Shake lands a left and a right that send Rodiguez crashing to the mat, dazed. Shake thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Rodiguez is rocked!
Shake fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Rodiguez is still on wobbly legs! Can Shake finish him?
Rodiguez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Shake pinned against the cage. Shake gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Rodiguez seems to have recovered his senses.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Shake clinches up against the cage.

Shake wants to take the fight to the mat but Rodiguez manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Rodiguez pulls guard.
Rodiguez working a defensive guard but Shake manages to pass into side control anyway.

Shake stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Rodiguez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Shake defends it nicely.
Rodiguez tries to clinch but Shake is having none of it.
Shake shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Rodiguez.
Shake looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

Shake throws a leg kick but Rodiguez moved away.

Shake rushes Rodiguez and presses him up against the cage.
Rodiguez tries to pull guard but Shake won't allow it.
Shake trying to land knees to the body.
Shake looking for a takedown.
Shake taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Shake pushes Rodiguez back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Rodiguez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Rodiguez gets tackled into the cage by Shake. Shake maintains the clinch.
Shake is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Rodiguez pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Shake tries to break free but Rodiguez pushes him back against the cage.
Shake tries to circle away but Rodiguez has him pinned against the cage.

Shake is trying to push Rodiguez away but Rodiguez has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Rodiguez wants to break free but Shake has control.

Rodiguez manages to break the clinch.
Shake looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Shake sets himself, and Rodiguez steps forward looking for the clinch! Shake avoids it this time.
Rodiguez misses with a takedown attempt - Shake sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Rodiguez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Shake defends well and Rodiguez ends up having to push Shake into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
No joy there for Shake, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A jab from Rodiguez finds it's way through Shake's defenses.
Rodiguez lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Rodiguez.
Shake looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Rodiguez takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Shake will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Shake throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Rodiguez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Shake to the mat! Shake manages to get full guard.

Shake has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Rodiguez is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Shake is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A short uppercut from Rodiguez.

Shake ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Shake no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Rodiguez looking to sit in guard and control but Shake gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Shake thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Abee Shake dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Rodiguez wants to clinch up but Shake keeps it at a distance.

Shake closes the distance and clinches.
Shake tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Shake is trying to break free.
Rodiguez will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Shake up against the cage.
Rodiguez is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Shake to keep the fight standing.
Shake jumps guard but Rodiguez stands there with Shake around his waist. Shake gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rodiguez tries to pull guard but Shake forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Shake prevents the takedown attempt.
Abee Shake has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yair Rodiguez.
Shake is trying to break the clinch but Rodiguez is controlling him.

Shake gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Shake is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Shake tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Shake manages to capitalize on a mistake by Rodiguez to take his back!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shake is persistently looking for the submission but Rodiguez is defending it well.
Shake controlling from the back.
Rodiguez just trying to survive but Shake is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Rodiguez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shake. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rodiguez is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Shake is staying active.
Rodiguez trying to get back to his feet but Shake is in full control for now.
Abee Shake overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rodiguez is breathing heavily.
Shake thows a strike but Rodiguez uses the opportunity to reverse the position! Great move by Rodiguez as he ends up in Shake 's guard!

Shake looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Shake uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Rodiguez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Shake swivels and escapes.
Abee Shake is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Shake shoots in looking for a takedown. Rodiguez tries to sprawl out of it but Shake keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rodiguez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Shake pulls Rodiguez into guard.

Shake is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rodiguez is aware though and is defending well.
Shake wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Rodiguez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Rodiguez throws a strike but Shake rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Shake slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Shake tries to land a front kick but Rodiguez steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Shake misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Rodiguez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Shake looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Shake manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Well, if Shake is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Shake wants to work for an arm triangle but Rodiguez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Shake throws some wild stikes that Rodiguez manages to avoid easily.

Shake jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Rodiguez manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Rodiguez tries to improve position but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shake working the ground and pound from side control.
Rodiguez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Shake wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Rodiguez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Shake in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Shake wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rodiguez, who protects the arm well.
Rodiguez parries the strikes from Shake easily there. Shake is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Rodiguez to escape.

Shake decides to stand back up. Shake steps back and let's Rodiguez get back to his feet.
Shake throws a leg kick but Rodiguez sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Rodiguez fails with a takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rodiguez throws the kick towards the body but Shake avoids it.
Shake dives in for a single leg takedown but Rodiguez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Shake slowing the pace effectively.
Shake is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rodiguez can do to turn this around?
Rodiguez gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Shake.

Shake has a closed guard, preventing Rodiguez from standing up.
