Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fidel Gaspar! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dave Jackson! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gaspar tries to close the distance and clinch but Jackson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Gaspar keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Gaspar clinches up with Jackson and pushes him back against the cage. Jackson misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Gaspar.
Jackson takes a knee right on the jaw!
Jackson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Gaspar smiles and moves away.
Jackson fails to land the takedown. Fidel Gaspar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Jackson. Jackson throws a leg kick but Gaspar sees it coming and moves out of range. Gaspar clinches. Gaspar lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
It looks like Dave Jackson has been cut. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Jackson wants to break the clinch but can't.
Gaspar lands a left hand.
Gaspar is trying to stall.
Gaspar changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Jackson fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Jackson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Jackson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gaspar as he avoids it easily. Dave Jackson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jackson looks gassed!
That's one minute gone in the round. Gaspar rushes Jackson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Jackson tries for a takedown but Gaspar manages to get underhooks.
Gaspar wants a takedown.
Gaspar has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Jackson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Gaspar scores a nice knee to the body.
Jackson is fighting off a takedown attempt but Gaspar is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Jackson to the mat. Jackson regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Jackson striking off his back but it's not causing Gaspar any problems. Jackson throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Jackson throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Gaspar drops back looking for a leg! Jackson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jackson manages to kick Gaspar off! Gaspar jumps back into Jackson's guard. Gaspar passes easily into side control. Nice work. Gaspar wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jackson, who protects the arm well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This has been an exciting period of action! Jackson is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gaspar has hold of Jackson's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Jackson seems comfortable defending it but Gaspar has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Jackson is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Jackson is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Gaspar couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Fidel Gaspar!
