This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 18 wins and 13 losses; John McCain! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Matheus Silva and Alexandre Firmino.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Siam drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Siam (2) vs (0) McCain McCain trying to keep a closed guard but Siam is proving a slippery customer.
Siam is stalling in the full guard. Siam trying to control the position from guard on top but McCain is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Siam engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Siam stopping the sweep attempt from McCain. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's five minutes gone in the round. We've been hearing good reports from Siam's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Siam is trying to get back to full guard. My spies in Globo Gym inform me that McCain has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. McCain sitting and controlling from the half guard.

And that's the end of the fight! McCain wins on points by 23 to 4. John McCain is the new featherweight champion! A relieved looking John McCain thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. |
