PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Convicted Kelly (ranked 3393 p4p, 2351 weight class) and Alexander Rusev (ranked 419 p4p, 320 weight class). Kelly's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Bump and grind. The key to victory for Convicted Kelly has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Convicted Kelly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alexander Rusev!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Dillan Fox and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Kelly looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Kelly gets caught flat footed, as Rusev shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Rusev working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Kelly's head.
Rusev trying to control the position from guard on top but Kelly is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rusev scoring with punches to the head and body.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rusev distracts Kelly with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Rusev throwing strikes but missing.
Rusev wants to control from the top but Kelly keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rusev makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kelly knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rusev on the ground.
Rusev postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Rusev lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Kelly avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Rusev connects with a couple of short punches.
Rusev has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rusev accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kelly is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Rusev scoring with punches to the head and body.
Kelly has momentary wrist control but Rusev slips an elbow through the middle.

Rusev thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Rusev's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rusev stands up over Kelly, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Rusev with a nice head shot there.
Kelly can't keep his opponent in guard - Rusev advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Kelly is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Bloody death gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Kelly on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rusev connects with a nice short shot to Kelly's temple.
Rusev is nestled in close to Kelly, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Rusev works his way into full mount!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rusev raining down shots from the mount!
Rusev cracks Kelly with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Kelly is rocked!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A big strike lands for Rusev! That's really hurt Kelly and he's turned his back - Rusev keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Rusev jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alexander Rusev!
