PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Trevor Gully (ranked 3496 p4p, 3090 weight class) and Bahamut Parkkinen (ranked 393 p4p, 358 weight class). Gully kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is E G G (JUMBO GRADE A CARTON OF MELODY). Bahamut Parkkinen acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Trevor Gully!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bahamut Parkkinen!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gully takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Gully feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Parkkinen wants to sweep here but Gully controlling him for the moment.
Gully controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Parkkinen can do anything to dispel that myth.
Parkkinen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Parkkinen in particular looking to stall.
Gully is pressing down on Parkkinen's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gully manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Parkkinen manages to get himself to full guard.

Parkkinen wants to sweep but no luck.
Gully advances to half guard.
Gully frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Gully throws a wild left hand from mount and Parkkinen manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.
Gully content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Gully seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Parkkinen for as long as he can get away with.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gully is looking for a kimura but Parkkinen is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gully to get the leverage.
Parkkinen is not content to let Gully control the position.

Gully is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Parkkinen sees it coming and defends easily.
Parkkinen is refusing to be controlled, as Gully sits in half guard.
Gully tries to pass to full mount but Parkkinen defends it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Gully not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Gully is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Parkkinen has managed to free his arm - good work.
Gully wants to take a breather but Parkkinen is having none of it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Gully shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Parkkinen counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Parkkinen digs a good hook to Gully's body.

Oooooh!!! Parkkinen has knocked Gully down with a huge combo! Parkkinen steps away and waves a wobbly Gully back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

It looks like Trevor Gully has been cut.
Parkkinen throws a leg kick which misses Gully's front leg but catches the back leg as Gully tries to avoid it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gully darts in looking for a takedown but Parkkinen gets double underhooks and turns Gully into the cage.

Parkkinen breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gully misses with a takedown attempt
and Parkkinen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Trevor Gully. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Parkkinen counters with a nice right hand that sends Gully toppling to the canvas! Gully scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Parkkinen finish him?!

and Parkkinen counters with a huge right that knocks Gully out cold! Parkkinen is running around with a crazed look on his face - you can see how much that meant to him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Bahamut Parkkinen!
A relieved looking Bahamut Parkkinen thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
