PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Borat Obama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Petr Vondrachek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Borat Obama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Petr Vondrachek!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Valeri Chadov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Obama shoots in for a takedown but Vondrachek shows good takedown defense.
No joy there for Obama, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Obama looks to land a combination but Vondrachek avoids it well.
Vondrachek paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Vondrachek throws a hook but Obama avoids it easily.
Vondrachek fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Obama changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Vondrachek looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Vondrachek is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Obama throwing shots but Vondrachek is blocking nicely.
Vondrachek trying to hold on to Obama's head to control him but Obama postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vondrachek tries to get to full guard but Obama has control of the leg.

Obama is trying to work for a kimura but Vondrachek is defending well.

Obama is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Obama looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Vondrachek is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Obama is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Vondrachek is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Obama.
Vondrachek lands a lovely overhand right.
Vondrachek drops Obama with a nice combination! Vondrachek dives into Obama's guard, looking to finish!


It looks like Borat Obama has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Obama is trying to control the position but Vondrachek postures up.

Vondrachek is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Vondrachek works over Obama with some ground and pound from guard.

Obama looking for a guillotine here but Vondrachek defends easily.
Obama is breathing heavily.
Vondrachek looking to pass the guard.
Vondrachek trying to control the position from guard on top but Obama is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Vondrachek drops back, looking for a kneebar! Obama looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Obama looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Obama!
Obama tries to move to mount but Vondrachek blocks the move with his legs.

Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Vondrachek tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Obama wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vondrachek keeps working.
Vondrachek avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Obama.
Vondrachek tries to control but Obama manages to take his back.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Obama is trying to stick to Vondrachek's back but Vondrachek is turning into Obama. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Obama's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Vondrachek.

Obama is looking for a triangle but Vondrachek pushes his legs off easily.

Vondrachek working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Vondrachek won't allow Obama to sweep him here.
Vondrachek is pushing down on Obama's leg trying to pass to half guard. Obama is fighting to maintain full guard but Vondrachek has managed to sneak the leg through.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Vondrachek is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Obama is just riding it out for now. Vondrachek eventually gives up the hold.
Obama is looking for a sweep. Vondrachek is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Petr Vondrachek dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Borat Obama's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Obama.
Vondrachek lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Obama backs up against the cage.
Petr Vondrachek seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Vondrachek is trying hard to land a takedown here. Obama sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

and Vondrachek counters with a combination of strikes to the head and body that crumple Obama!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Obama looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Vondrachek seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Vondrachek moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Obama.

Vondrachek is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Obama is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Vondrachek is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Obama is trying to improve his position.
Obama manages to work his way to half guard, despite Vondrachek's best efforts.

Vondrachek seems to be working for a kimura but Obama defends the submission attempt.

Obama has hold of Vondrachek's hands but Vondrachek slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Vondrachek maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Obama could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Vondrachek has cracked it and Obama is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Vondrachek!
