This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 32 wins and 21 losses; Jackson Ramirez! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 3 losses; Gaston Juncker! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Joseph Jones and Anthony Taglia.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Ramirez scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Ramirez (4) vs (0) Juncker Juncker is trying to improve his position. Juncker is letting Ramirez control him for a moment. Juncker tries to bench press Ramirez off him but Ramirez keeps the position. Juncker is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ramirez is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Juncker is trying to control Ramirez's posture but Ramirez avoids it. Ramirez is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Juncker will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Ramirez tries to move into full mount but can't pass Juncker's legs. Ramirez controls the position from side control. Ramirez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Juncker for as long as he can get away with. Juncker has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Juncker regains half guard. Juncker wants to improve his position but Ramirez is controlling well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Juncker is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Ramirez with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Juncker sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Ramirez stalling. Juncker is trying to maintain the position but Ramirez is very close to passing his half guard. Ramirez tries to pass the half guard into mount. Juncker knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Juncker tries to get to full guard but Ramirez has control of the leg. Ramirez passes into side control, despite Juncker's attempt to control the position.

That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Juncker tries to improve his position but instead Ramirez has taken his back! Score +3 for taking back: Ramirez (18) vs (0) Juncker Juncker wants to control his opponent's hands but Ramirez gets his hands free. Ramirez seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. I would not like to be Juncker right now.
Juncker trying to control the hands but Ramirez breaks the grip. Juncker tries to escape but Ramirez has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Juncker is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Ramirez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Ramirez biding his time, controlling Juncker. Ramirez's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Juncker manages to reverse the position and now he's in Ramirez's guard. Nice work there by Juncker.

That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Ramirez tries to land a sweep but no joy. Ramirez being controlled here, momentarily. Ramirez controls Juncker momentarily but Juncker frees himself.
And that's the end of the fight! Ramirez takes the fight on points by 18 to 2. Jackson Ramirez gave a mention to Threads of Fate in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales). |
