PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between AJ Menendez (ranked 6141 p4p, 6018 weight class) and Bobby Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Menendez comes to the cage accompanied by Kurt Angle Theme. Brown has chosen A Warrior's Call as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 2, fighting out of The Island, AJ Menendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Bobby Brown!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Michael Johnstone and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Menendez throws a head kick that misses.
Brown looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Brown tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Menendez was well out of range. Poor timing from Brown.
Menendez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Brown manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Brown shoots in for a takedown but Menendez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Menendez has a takedown stuffed.
Brown keeps the fight on the outside.
Menendez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Menendez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Brown manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Brown stuffs the takedown.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Brown has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for AJ Menendez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Brown takes a shot right to the bread basket.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brown keeps the fight on the outside.
Brown with the counter takedown but Menendez avoids it easily.

Menendez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Menendez fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Brown to the ground. Menendez is now in Brown's guard.
Brown is wriggling around but Menendez manages to pass to half guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Brown can do anything to dispel that myth.

Brown is in a horrible position here. Menendez smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Menendez lands a nice shot to the head.

Menendez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Menendez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Brown for as long as he can get away with.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Menendez breaks from Brown's wrist control and lands an elbow.

It looks like Bobby Brown has been cut.
Menendez controlling the position easily from mount.
Menendez lands a big shot there that rocks Brown but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Menendez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Menendez is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Menendez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Menendez landing punches.

Menendez wants to finish this one by submission but Brown is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Menendez.

Brown can't escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brown is rocked!

That has opened up Bobby Brown's cut even more.
Oooh a big shot lands for Menendez! Brown is out! The ref dives in to save him from more punishment!
