PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gakus Amiga (ranked 24318 p4p, 24101 weight class) and Richard John Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Richard John Salvacion told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 33 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gakus Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 37 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard John Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Amiga shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Salvacion sprawls well. Salvacion wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Amiga gets slowly back to his feet.
Nice sprawl there from Salvacion as Amiga shoots in.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion tries for a takedown but Amiga sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Amiga thinks about countering with a body kick.
Salvacion shoots and misses
and Amiga counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.

Salvacion fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Gakus Amiga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Richard John Salvacion.

Salvacion looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Amiga is fending him off so far but Salvacion persists. Nope, Amiga circles away and we're back to standing.
Amiga is looking to counter with a body kick.

Amiga fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Salvacion sprawls well initially but Amiga persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Salvacion is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Salvacion is looking for a sweep. Amiga is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Amiga keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Salvacion has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Amiga is working away from the top position though.
Well, if Amiga is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Salvacion shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Amiga but Amiga pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Amiga jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Amiga leaves Salvacion with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Amiga thinks about countering with a body kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Salvacion.
Amiga is looking to counter with a body kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Amiga. Salvacion shrugs it off though.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gakus Amiga dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Amiga throws the kick towards the body but Salvacion avoids it.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Amiga.
Salvacion follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

Amiga dives in and scores a takedown into Salvacion's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion managing to control the position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Amiga accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Salvacion has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Amiga tries to stand but Salvacion is controlling from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Amiga is stalling in the full guard.
Amiga being controlled here momentarily.
Amiga is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga shoots in but no luck this time.
Amiga tries for a takedown but Salvacion circles away easily

and Salvacion counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gakus Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Amiga is pulling down on Salvacion's head. It's preventing any offense from Salvacion, at least for the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion stopping the sweep attempt from Amiga.

Salvacion tries to free his leg and advance position but Amiga is retaining full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Richard John Salvacion will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Amiga displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Salvacion.
And Amiga counters with a quick kick to the body but Salvacion blocks it.
Salvacion misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Amiga jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.

Amiga tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Salvacion swivels and escapes.

Amiga throws the kick towards the body but Salvacion avoids it.
Salvacion steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Salvacion darts in looking for a takedown but Amiga gets double underhooks and turns Salvacion into the cage.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Salvacion throws a body kick that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Salvacion changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Amiga tries to avoid it but Salvacion manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Amiga to the ground. Amiga escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Amiga throws a quick counter kick to the body but Salvacion avoids it.
Salvacion shoots in looking for a takedown but Amiga manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Salvacion's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Amiga scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Salvacion is being controlled here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Amiga staying calm.
Salvacion takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Salvacion struggling a bit here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Salvacion is being controlled here.
Amiga's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Amiga wants to lay and pray for a moment but Salvacion keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Amiga closes this distance looking for a takedown but Salvacion circles away.
Salvacion thinks about the counter body kick.

Salvacion changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Amiga looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Richard John Salvacion.
I think Salvacion has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
