Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Joe McConnell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Charlinho Motosserra! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Winston Alpacca and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McConnell bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Motosserra ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McConnell moves away. Motosserra jabbing away but nothing is landing. McConnell wants to clinch. McConnell tries to clinch there but Motosserra circles away.
McConnell is looking to clinch but Motosserra is avoiding it.
Motosserra swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. McConnell drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. McConnell fails with an attempt to clinch.
We've been told by McConnell's head coaches at PhoQus Island Training that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Motosserra avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A punch lands to the side of Motosserra 's head but he takes it in his stride.
It looks like Charlinho Motosserra has been cut. Motosserra circles away from the clinch attempt.
McConnell tries to close the distance and clinch but Motosserra swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. McConnell tries to close the distance and clinch up but Motosserra swats him away and circles back towards the center.
That's one minute gone in the round. McConnell fails with an attempt to clinch.
Joe McConnell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. McConnell darts in and clinches Motosserra up against the cage. Still in the clinch, McConnell scores with a nice short uppercut. Nice elbow from McConnell. McConnell comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Motosserra has clasped his hands together around McConnell's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Motosserra tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Motosserra has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Motosserra taking a breather here. Motosserra trying to control the action but McConnell is working from the bottom. Motosserra has hold of McConnell's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! McConnell tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Motosserra cranks the arm and McConnell screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from McConnell, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Charlinho Motosserra! Charlinho Motosserra was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
