PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rustam Kadurov (ranked 2034 p4p, 5095 weight class) and Jean Michel Plutarque (ranked 266 p4p, 514 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rustam Kadurov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jean Michel Plutarque!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Ivan Kurochkin and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Plutarque shoots in looking for a takedown. Kadurov tries to sprawl out of it but Plutarque keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kadurov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kadurov thuds a left hand into Plutarque's body.

Plutarque closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kadurov to the mat! Kadurov manages to get full guard.
Plutarque looking to sit in guard and control but Kadurov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Plutarque is trying to control the position but Kadurov postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kadurov has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Plutarque is looking for a triangle but Kadurov pushes his legs off easily.

Plutarque tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Plutarque had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kadurov defends it easily.
Plutarque is trying to control the position but Kadurov postures up.

Plutarque has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kadurov is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Plutarque.
Plutarque tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kadurov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Plutarque is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Kadurov has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Kadurov's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Plutarque is looking for a sweep.

Plutarque is trying to improve his position.
Plutarque is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Kadurov remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Kadurov connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Plutarque some visible discomfort.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Plutarque looks to move to half guard but instead Kadurov has passed into mount! Damn!

Kadurov lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Plutarque tries to hold on but Kadurov postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kadurov is in the full mount, landing strikes.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Kadurov lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Jean Michel Plutarque is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Kadurov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Plutarque manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Kadurov tries to score a body lock takedown but Plutarque shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Plutarque lands with a left to the head.
A head punch on the inside from Plutarque fails to land.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Plutarque has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kadurov uses from the top position.

Kadurov keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Plutarque's head.

Kadurov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Plutarque wants to sweep but no luck.
Kadurov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Plutarque wants to control the position but Kadurov says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Still in half guard, Kadurov seems content to control.

Plutarque is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kadurov scores with a couple of nice shots.
Kadurov seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Kadurov is taking a breather. Plutarque says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Kadurov takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Plutarque is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Plutarque tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Kadurov has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Plutarque is desperately trying to improve his position but Kadurov has a good base and remains in mount.

Plutarque is rocked!
Kadurov drops a big elbow. That's hurt Plutarque! More shots from Kadurov and the ref steps in! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rustam Kadurov!
Rustam Kadurov tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
