And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jouni Joukahainen!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe swings for the body but Joukahainen moves out of range.
We've been hearing reports that Joe has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Joe uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Joukahainen.
Joe takes a jab right on the kisser.
Joukahainen throws a head kick that misses.
Joe appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Joe swings for the body but Joukahainen moves out of range.
Joe misses with a right hand
and Joukahainen counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Joe will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Joukahainen throws a series of punches but Joe avoids them all with ease.
Joe tries to counter with a takedown but Joukahainen is quick to defend against it.

A looping hook to the body misses from Joukahainen. Joe does a little dance to reset his feet.
Joe attempts a counter takedown but Joukahainen avoids it well and moves away.
Joe tries to clinch there but Joukahainen circles away.
Joukahainen appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Joukahainen connects with the punch.
Joukahainen finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Joe feinted with a counter takedown.
Joe throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Joe moves into range and clinches up with Joukahainen.
A nice right hand lands inside from Joukahainen.

Joukahainen breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Joukahainen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Joe changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Joukahainen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Joe moves away.
Joukahainen swats away the attempt to clinch by Joe.
Joukahainen tries to score with a low kick but Joe moves his leg out of the way.
Joe appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Joukahainen throws a leg kick but Joe checks it.
Joukahainen circles away from the clinch attempt.
Joe with a lazy takedown attempt
and Joukahainen counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Joe.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Buddah Joe. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Joe fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Joukahainen has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Joe is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Joe on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Nice body punch from Joukahainen.

Joukahainen lands a big head kick that sends Joe tumbling to the mat! Joukahainen takes a step backwards and waves Joe back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Buddah Joe has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Joukahainen pounces like a tiger and cracks Joe with a vicious hook! Joe is down but not out! Joukahainen follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:16 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Jouni Joukahainen!
