Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Ruiz (ranked 4404 p4p, 5180 weight class) and Shams Charania (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shams Charania is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Ruiz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Shams Charania! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Charania shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Ruiz counters with a straight right hand. Ruiz dives in and scores a takedown into Charania's guard. Charania has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Ruiz has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Ruiz drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Charania lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Charania takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Charania is looking to advance position but Ruiz won't allow it. Charania drops an elbow to the side of Ruiz's head. Charania seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Ruiz has hold of Charania's hands but Charania slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Charania working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Charania drops an elbow to the side of Ruiz's head. Charania lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Charania is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Charania looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Charania working over Ruiz with some ground and pound. Ruiz looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Ruiz wants to get back to full guard. Charania decides to stand and escape the position. Charania misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Charania leaves Ruiz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Ruiz scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Charania gets back to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Charania can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ruiz postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Charania looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Ruiz stopping the sweep attempt from Charania. Charania is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Charania looking for a guillotine here but Ruiz defends easily.
Charania has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ruiz lands a couple of elbows. Ruiz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Charania on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Charania has his foot on Ruiz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ruiz works his way back into a safe position though. Ruiz scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Charania is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ruiz is aware though and is defending well. Charania pulls Ruiz in to control the position. Charania is looking to cinch up a triangle. Ruiz throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Charania's body to avoid the submission. Charania has instead reached around Ruiz's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Charania arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Shams Charania!
