PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dali Richmond (ranked 4406 p4p, 4405 weight class) and Hamish Kanter (ranked 593 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dali Richmond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hamish Kanter!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kanter misses with a takedown attempt - Richmond sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Richmond fails with a takedown attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Richmond.
Kanter throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Richmond's waist but Richmond gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kanter off to one side.

Richmond tries a head kick but it misses.
Kanter misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Richmond appears to be looking for a big counter.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kanter is looking to chop away at Richmond's legs.
Richmond lands with a kick to the temple. Kanter shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Kanter gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Kanter gets control of Richmond's arms and successfully pulls guard. Kanter will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Kanter is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Richmond presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Kanter turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Kanter manages to end up in side control.

Kanter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Richmond, who protects the arm well.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kanter lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kanter is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Richmond can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Kanter's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Kanter jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Richmond manages to avoid the submission attempt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kanter is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Richmond shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kanter pinned against the cage. Kanter gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kanter takes the fight into the clinch.
Richmond gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Kanter.
Richmond is trying to push Kanter away but Kanter has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kanter has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Richmond slaps away a takedown attempt from Kanter, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Richmond looks for a takedown but Kanter sprawls well.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Richmond is defended easily by Kanter.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dali Richmond. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Richmond doesn't manage to clinch there - Kanter circles away.

Richmond jumps guard but Kanter stands there with Richmond around his waist. Richmond gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Kanter tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Richmond is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Kanter takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Richmond is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kanter gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

and Kanter counters with a single leg into guard. Richmond didn't expect that.

Richmond is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Let's hope that Kanter has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Kanter thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kanter closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Richmond quickly recovers to half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Hamish Kanter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Richmond shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kanter defends it nicely.

Kanter is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Richmond!

Richmond wants to control his opponent's hands but Kanter gets his hands free.

Kanter working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Richmond is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Kanter has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Richmond taps out!
