PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 24292 p4p, 24218 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 23 - 35 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 26 - 32 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Kiang tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Nada defends well and Kiang ends up having to push Nada into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Kiang gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Nada regains guard.
Nada is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kiang trying to control the position from guard on top but Nada is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Kiang being controlled here momentarily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kiang controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Kiang working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Nada goes for a double leg but Kiang avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kiang continues to drive forward. And Kiang counters with a quick kick to the body but Nada blocks it. Nada has Kiang pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kiang manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Nada pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Kiang shoots in looking for a takedown but Nada manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kiang's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. And Nada responds with a good body kick, but Kiang manages to step out the way in time. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yawa Kiang. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kiang leaves Nada with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Horrible takedown attempt by Nada or perhaps it was just good defense by Kiang, which made it look bad. Nada shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kiang is trying to defend but Nada finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kiang is concentrating on defense, preventing Nada from advancing position. Kiang is trying to maintain the position but Nada is very close to passing his half guard. Nada controlling the action here. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Kiang is positioning himself well to prevent Nada advancing to mount. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Yawa Kiang will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Kiang looking to score a takedown here. Nada is defending well but Kiang drives through and ends up in Nada's guard. Nada trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Kiang controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Kiang trying to move into half guard but instead Nada has managed to sweep! Kiang has his hands on Nada's head, controlling the position. Nada gets to his feet - Kiang follows without any prompting.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Excellent takedown into side control there by Kiang. Nada struggling a bit here. Nada tries to improve position but can't.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nada keeping his opponent close. Kiang staying calm. Nada wants to control but Kiang postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Kiang misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Nice takedown defense from Nada. No joy for Kiang on that attempt. Kiang looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Nada follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Nada throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Kiang appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Yawa Kiang dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Kiang closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Nada's guard. Nada pulls Kiang in close to his closed guard and prevents Kiang from doing any damage or advancing position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nada wants to control but Kiang passes easily into half guard.
Kiang prevents Nada from improving his position. Kiang looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Nada slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Nada looking to control.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Kiang tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nada sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kiang somewhat. Kiang fails with a takedown attempt. And Nada responds with a good body kick, but Kiang manages to step out the way in time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kiang feints and as Nada raises his hands in defense, Kiang changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Nada controlling the position. Way Nada has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Yawa Kiang is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Kiang's corner is telling him to maintain position.
And that's the end of the fight! Yawa Kiang showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kiang, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
