The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Pierre throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mondiou was covering up waiting for the punch and Pierre finishes the takedown easily into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Pierre (2) vs (0) Mondiou We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Mondiou is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Pierre looking to pass the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mondiou working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pierre doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pierre manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Pierre won't allow Mondiou to sweep him here. Pierre thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mondiou is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Mondiou is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pierre is aware though and is defending well. Mondiou is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pierre is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Mondiou looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Mondiou has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Pierre is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Mondiou yanks on the arm and Pierre is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission!
