PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimbo Christ (ranked 24691 p4p, 24821 weight class) and Jett Fletcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fletcher is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore. Jimbo Christ has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jimbo Christ!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jett Fletcher!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Christ fails to land the takedown.
Christ fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Fletcher avoids it really well and circles away.
Fletcher unleashes a big counter combination but Christ bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Christ dives in for a single leg takedown but Fletcher sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jimbo Christ. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fletcher ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Fletcher no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Christ stands up and waves to Fletcher to follow him.

Fletcher shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Christ is trying to stand back up but Fletcher is controlling him

Fletcher is trying to control. Christ wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Christ is looking to control Fletcher's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Christ avoid being mounted?
Fletcher is trying to control the action in half guard but Christ is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Christ throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Fletcher not doing much here.
Christ is not content to let Fletcher control the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Christ is positioning himself well to prevent Fletcher advancing to mount.
Christ is pressing down on Fletcher's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Christ might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Christ is trying to keep Fletcher in close.
Christ tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Fletcher has gone for a leg lock! Christ slips out almost immediately though and dives into Fletcher's guard.


Christ avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Fletcher seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Christ looking to pass the guard.

Christ drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Fletcher manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Christ has Fletcher in his guard.

Christ wants to sweep but no luck.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Christ keeping moving, preventing Fletcher from controlling successfully.
Fletcher is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Fletcher throwing strikes from guard but Christ blocks nicely.
Christ looking for a sweep. Not yet Christ, not yet.
Christ utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Fletcher wants to pass the guard but Christ is keeping the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Christ is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jett Fletcher dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Fletcher closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Christ did well to prevent Fletcher getting side control.
Christ looks like he's trying to stand up.
Fletcher wants to lay and pray for a moment but Christ keeps working.
Fletcher prevents Christ from improving his position.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Fletcher working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Christ is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Fletcher's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Fletcher's back!
Fletcher is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Christ throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Fletcher wants to control his opponent's hands but Christ gets his hands free.

Fletcher is really stuck here.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Christ's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Fletcher is having to fend off submission attempts from Christ, who is looking to sink in the choke. Christ doesn't have the hooks in though and Fletcher manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

Fletcher wants to control from the top but Christ keeps moving.

Christ escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fletcher gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Christ is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Christ looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Fletcher won't allow Christ to sweep him here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Fletcher trying to control but Christ is working from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
A head kick misses from Christ.
Fletcher is trying to counter with his kicks.
Fletcher misses with the combination.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Christ, as that shot connected.
Christ keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Christ was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Christ moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Christ fails with a takedown attempt.
Fletcher lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Fletcher defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Christ.
Christ looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jimbo Christ will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Christ looks for a takedown but Fletcher sprawls well.
Fletcher bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Christ's head.
Fletcher slaps away a takedown attempt from Christ, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Christ looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Jimbo Christ is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fletcher shoots in looking for a takedown. Christ tries to sprawl out of it but Fletcher keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Christ manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Christ fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Fletcher, pushing him back against the cage.

Christ pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Fletcher throws a left and a right that both miss

and Christ counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Christ.
Christ drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Fletcher gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jimbo Christ. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fletcher is trying to break the clinch but Christ has him pressed against the cage.
Christ has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Fletcher avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Christ manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Christ tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Fletcher trying to stand up but can't free himself from Christ's guard.

Fletcher throws an elbow that misses. Christ uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Fletcher's guard. Nice move by Christ!

Fletcher is trying to stand up here but Christ is controlling him well.

Christ wants to work for an arm triangle but Fletcher is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Christ stalling away here and it's allowed Fletcher to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Christ sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Fletcher wants to stand and escape but Christ is having none of it.
Christ slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Christ has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Fletcher is proving hard to escape from.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Fletcher shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Christ's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jimbo Christ.
I think Christ has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
