Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Elim Garak (ranked 855 p4p, 602 weight class) and Hiroshi Yamasaki (ranked 69 p4p, 46 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Elim Garak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hiroshi Yamasaki!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Alec Ball and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Yamasaki is defended easily by Garak.
Garak bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Garak misses with a right hand

and Yamasaki decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Garak's guard.

Yamasaki is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Garak is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Garak has escaped and now he's on top!

Yamasaki looking to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Garak's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Garak trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Garak postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Garak is working Yamasaki over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Yamasaki is looking for a triangle here but Garak uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Garak looks up at the clock and then as Yamasaki takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Garak smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Garak lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Yamasaki is trying to control Garak's posture but Garak avoids it.
We've been hearing that Garak has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Yamasaki gets back to half guard.
Garak slips a nice elbow through Yamasaki's hands, connecting with Yamasaki's forehead.

Yamasaki looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Garak has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Garak lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Yamasaki is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Garak pulls his head out easily.

Yamasaki looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Garak seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Garak is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Yamasaki has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Garak escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Garak!
Yamasaki is looking to reverse the position.

Garak content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Garak is trying to control the action in half guard but Yamasaki is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Yamasaki is looking for a sweep. Garak is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Garak takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Garak seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Yamasaki on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Yamasaki regains full guard. Nicely done.
Yamasaki trying to keep a closed guard but Garak is proving a slippery customer.
Garak trying to control but Yamasaki is working from the bottom.

Yamasaki tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Garak wants to control from the top but Yamasaki keeps moving.

Garak is really struggling to control Yamasaki but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Yamasaki working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Garak doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Garak manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Yamasaki looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Yamasaki can't keep his opponent in guard - Garak advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Still in half guard, Garak seems content to control.
Yamasaki has hold of Garak's hands but Garak slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Elim Garak dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Yamasaki fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Garak sprawls well initially but Yamasaki persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Yamasaki not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Yamasaki has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Garak regains half guard.

Yamasaki is trying to work for a kimura but Garak is defending well.
Garak moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Yamasaki must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Garak is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Yamasaki has his hands clasped together but Garak extends and breaks Yamasaki's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Garak.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Elim Garak!
After the fight, Elim Garak was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
