This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 19 wins and 11 losses; Vasiliy Kulik! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 21 losses; David McDonald! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Glass and James Ackerman.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. McDonald shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kulik as he jumps to the side. McDonald drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Kulik (0) vs (4) McDonald We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. McDonald is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Kulik's shoulder. That is not cool. McDonald looking to control but instead Kulik has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard. Kulik really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. McDonald wants to work for an arm triangle but Kulik is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
My spies in Blacktalians MMA inform me that McDonald has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! McDonald wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kulik keeps working. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kulik is doing well to control the position and prevent McDonald from advancing to side control. Kulik tries to get to full guard but McDonald has control of the leg.

McDonald wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kulik keeps working. McDonald is pressing down on Kulik's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kulik is holding on for now. That's two minutes gone in the round. Kulik is looking for a sweep. McDonald is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. We've been hearing good reports from Kulik's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Kulik is controlling McDonald's position as best he can from this difficult position. McDonald is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Kulik reverses the position - he's now on top in McDonald's guard. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Kulik seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. McDonald is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kulik defends well. That's ten minutes gone in the round. Kulik trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but McDonald manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Kulik (2) vs (6) McDonald McDonald trying to control but Kulik is working from the bottom. McDonald controls the pace of the fight for a moment. McDonald wants to control from the top but Kulik keeps moving. Kulik trying to control the position.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Kulik manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. McDonald manages to get himself to full guard.
Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Kulik (4) vs (6) McDonald Kulik's corner is telling him to maintain position. McDonald trying to keep a closed guard but Kulik is proving a slippery customer.
McDonald looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kulik is one step ahead there. Kulik controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. McDonald controls Kulik momentarily but Kulik frees himself. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Kulik passes McDonald's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! McDonald wins on points by 6 to 4. David McDonald opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see. |
