PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kiribayama Tetsuo (ranked 5309 p4p, 4390 weight class) and Jack Slate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jack Slate will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kiribayama Tetsuo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jack Slate!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yuuki Gou and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tetsuo shoots in and gets a takedown into Slate's guard.
Tetsuo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Slate lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Tetsuo is controlling Slate's posture.
Slate stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tetsuo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Slate trying to control but Tetsuo is working from the bottom.
Tetsuo on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Tetsuo tries to get out of the position.
Tetsuo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Slate decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Slate throws a head kick but Tetsuo moves out of range.

Tetsuo clinches up with Slate and pushes him back against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Slate misses with an elbow strike.

Tetsuo has clasped his hands together around Slate's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
You can see the frustration on Slate's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tetsuo grinds an elbow into Slate's temple.
Tetsuo controls the position.
Tetsuo landing strikes.
Tetsuo staying calm.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tetsuo tries to advance to mount but Slate denies him.
Tetsuo controlling from side mount.
Slate wants to control but Tetsuo postures up.
Tetsuo tries to advance to mount but Slate instead regains half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Tetsuo wants to work for an arm triangle but Slate is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Slate trying to control from the bottom.

Tetsuo stands up and beckons Slate to join him on the feet.
Slate looks winded!
Tetsuo does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Tetsuo moves into the clinch successfully.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Slate is looking to take this one to the mat.
Tetsuo misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Slate.

Tetsuo has hold of one of Slate's legs. Slate is fighting the takedown attempt but Tetsuo gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Tetsuo decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Tetsuo throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Slate tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Tetsuo is in Slate's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Tetsuo gets to his feet. Slate looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Tetsuo fails to land with a series of punches.

Tetsuo darts in and clinches Slate up against the cage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kiribayama Tetsuo dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Excellent takedown into side control there by Tetsuo.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slate is looking for a sweep.
Slate taking punishment in the form of punches.

Tetsuo decides to stand back up. Tetsuo steps back and let's Slate get back to his feet.
Slate shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Tetsuo pinned against the cage. Tetsuo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Slate tries to sprawl but Tetsuo drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Slate slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Tetsuo controlling from the top position.
Slate is breathing heavily.

Tetsuo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Slate wants to sweep here but Tetsuo controlling him for the moment.
Kiribayama Tetsuo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Tetsuo seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Tetsuo shoots in and bounces Slate off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Tetsuo is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Tetsuo tries to free his leg and advance position but Slate is retaining full guard.
Tetsuo chips away with some ground and pound.
Tetsuo wants to pass the guard but Slate is keeping the position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Tetsuo scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Tetsuo is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Tetsuo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Slate swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tetsuo stays in close to Slate's body and controls the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Tetsuo drives through and clinches with Slate against the cage.

Tetsuo turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Tetsuo manages to end up in side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Tetsuo decides to stand back up.

Slate gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Tetsuo works a leg free and moves into half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kiribayama Tetsuo dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


A momentary lapse in concentration from Slate enables Tetsuo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Slate manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Slate wants to get back to his feet but Tetsuo passes into half guard.

Tetsuo perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Tetsuo stops Slate from getting back to his feet.

Tetsuo is thwarting Slate's attempts to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tetsuo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Slate on the ground.
Slate takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Slate tries to get to full guard but Tetsuo has control of the leg.

Tetsuo's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Slate is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Tetsuo is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Tetsuo looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Slate with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Tetsuo takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Tetsuo winds up and cracks Slate with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Tetsuo is controlling the pace.

Tetsuo decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Tetsuo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Tetsuo seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Slate for as long as he can get away with.

Slate tries to lock up and control but Tetsuo gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Tetsuo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Slate is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kiribayama Tetsuo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Tetsuo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
