PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Noah Wells (ranked 1643 p4p, 2565 weight class) and Bertrand Holderbaum (ranked 247 p4p, 367 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Noah Wells has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Noah Wells seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Noah Wells!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bertrand Holderbaum!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Colin Fray and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holderbaum's jab looks to have found its range, popping Wells under the eye.

It looks like Noah Wells has been cut.
Wells lands a body shot.
Holderbaum ducks under a wild hook from Wells.
Wells misses with an uppercut.
Wells cracks Holderbaum with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Wells avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Holderbaum throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Wells sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Holderbaum moves into range and clinches up with Wells.
Wells misses with the head strike.

Holderbaum jumps guard and drags Wells to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Wells might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Wells avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Holderbaum working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wells doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wells manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Our spies down at at Julians Sports Bar & Gym inform us that Holderbaum has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Holderbaum has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Wells is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Holderbaum.

Holderbaum tries to lock up and control but Wells gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Holderbaum is trying desperately to improve position.
Holderbaum tries to hold on but Wells postures up.

Wells prevents Holderbaum from getting the reversal.

Holderbaum tries to control Wells's body but Wells pushes him off. Holderbaum squirms to his side and now Wells has his back!
Holderbaum tries to escape but Wells has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Wells is not going to allow Holderbaum to sit and survive in this position.
Holderbaum is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Wells is staying active.
Holderbaum wants to escape the position.
Holderbaum keeps trying to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Holderbaum just trying to survive but Wells is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Holderbaum tries to escape but Wells has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Holderbaum trying to control the position but Wells manages to sink in the hooks.
Holderbaum tries to roll but Wells sticks to his back.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Holderbaum tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Noah Wells's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Holderbaum uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wells.
Wells throws a body shot but no joy.
Wells moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

It looks like Bertrand Holderbaum has been cut.
Wells thows a left - swing and a miss!
Wells on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Holderbaum is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Holderbaum misses with a hook.
Wells seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Holderbaum misses with a lunging right hand
and Wells counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Wells tries to clinch up but Holderbaum circles away and keeps his distance.
Holderbaum catches Wells with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Holderbaum misses with a body kick.
Holderbaum defending well as Wells loads up on a big left hand.
Wells walks into a left hand.
Holderbaum tries to clinch but Wells is having none of it.
Holderbaum on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wells thows a left - swing and a miss!
Wells changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Wells closes the distance and clinches.
Wells misses with a short punch on the inside.
Wells goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Holderbaum goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Holderbaum jumps guard but Wells turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Holderbaum fails to pull guard.
Wells can't break the clinch.
Wells wants to get back to striking at distance but Holderbaum won't allow it.
Holderbaum tries to throw a body punch but Wells avoids it by throwing Holderbaum back against the cage.
Holderbaum's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Holderbaum is rocked!
Wells digs a right hand underneath Holderbaum's ribcage. Holderbaum let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Holderbaum is still on wobbly legs! Can Wells finish him?
Holderbaum blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Wells swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Wells tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Wells swings wildly with an uppercut but Holderbaum uses good head movement to avoid it.
Wells is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Holderbaum can do to turn this around?
Wells misses with a hook from the clinch.
Wells working aggressively here.
Holderbaum blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
A hook to the body from Wells.
Holderbaum is breathing heavily.
Wells swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Wells escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Holderbaum is wiping some vaseline out of his eye. Wells doesn't give a rats ass about fair play and cracks him with a massive hook to the side of the head! Holderbaum crumples to the floor out cold! The cornerman is going to be in Holderbaum's bad books for that mishap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Noah Wells!

During a confident post fight interview, Noah Wells thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
