PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chan Sung Jung (ranked 5354 p4p, 4347 weight class) and Big Honcho (ranked 401 p4p, 0 weight class). Jung's entrance music is Zombie. A fine choice. Chan Sung Jung looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chan Sung Jung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Big Honcho!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Honcho moves into range and clinches up with Jung.

Jung manages to break the clinch.
Horrible takedown attempt by Honcho or perhaps it was just good defense by Jung, which made it look bad.
Jung is looking for a counter combo.
Jung tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Honcho paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Honcho fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jung uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Honcho.
As Honcho looks to move away, Jung throws a big counter combo but Honcho just gets out of the way.

Jung closes the distance and clinches.
Honcho is looking to take this one to the mat.

Jung pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Chan Sung Jung seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jung swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Chan Sung Jung has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Big Honcho.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jung throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Honcho pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Honcho shoots in looking for a takedown. Jung tries to sprawl out of it but Honcho keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jung manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Honcho changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jung tries to avoid it but Honcho manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jung to the ground. Jung escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Honcho tries to clinch there but Jung circles away.

Jung drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Honcho manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jung has Honcho in his guard.

Honcho is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jung wants to stand and escape but Honcho is having none of it.
Jung is breathing heavily.

Jung is looking for a triangle here but Honcho uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Jung wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Jung is not content to let Honcho control the position.
Jung pushes Honcho away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Honcho gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Honcho content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Honcho tries to stand but Jung is controlling his head.

Honcho advances nicely into full mount.
Honcho scoring with strikes but Jung is staying in there.
Jung might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Honcho takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Jung tries to hold on but Honcho postures up.
Jung is desperately trying to improve his position but Honcho has a good base and remains in mount.

Honcho tries to control but Jung wriggling away.

Honcho wants to finish this one by submission but Jung is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Honcho.
Jung wants to get back to his feet.
Jung tries to reverse the position but Honcho maintains control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jung is in a horrible position here. Honcho smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jung is trying desperately to improve position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Big Honcho dominated that round.
That's time! Jung's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Honcho closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jung circles away.

Honcho is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Jung looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Honcho is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Jung defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Honcho has the hooks in. Jung is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Honcho pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Honcho fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Honcho throws a push kick but Jung slaps the foot to one side.
Jung goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jung looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Honcho shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jung defends it nicely.
Chan Sung Jung has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Big Honcho.

Jung goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Honcho wants to sweep but no luck.

Jung stands and steps away. Honcho gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Jung closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Honcho quickly recovers to half guard.

Jung shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Honcho manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Jung is standing up over Honcho. Honcho looks to escape but Jung dives into side control.


Jung wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Honcho, who protects the arm well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Chan Sung Jung will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Honcho darts in and clinches Jung up against the cage.

Jung throws a nice looking combination but Honcho bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Jung closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Jung wants to lay and pray for a moment but Honcho keeps working.
Jung misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Honcho.
Jung throws a big counter combination but Honcho scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Chan Sung Jung is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jung throws a right and a left that Honcho avoids nicely.
Honcho misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Chan Sung Jung has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Big Honcho.

Jung lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Jung.

and Honcho counters with a shoot takedown. Jung fights it but they end up in guard.

Jung is trying to stand up here but Honcho is controlling him well.

Jung tries to kick Honcho off in order to stand up. Honcho Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Chan Sung Jung.
I think Jung has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
