PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ishmael Kantu (ranked 5366 p4p, 25113 weight class) and Gregor Orlav (ranked 370 p4p, 409 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ishmael Kantu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gregor Orlav!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kantu changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Orlav tries to avoid it but Kantu manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Orlav to the ground. Orlav escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kantu looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Orlav wants to counter the offense by Kantu and move into the clinch position.
Kantu is breathing heavily.
Kantu fails with the takedown

and Orlav counters with a shoot takedown. Kantu fights it but they end up in guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ishmael Kantu. That's going to take a lot out of him.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kantu throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Orlav escapes and throws Kantu's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Kantu seems a little lost for a moment, as Orlav dominates the positioning.
Kantu knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Orlav on the ground.
Orlav has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Kantu!

Orlav is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kantu to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kantu shrugs it off.

Kantu is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Orlav tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Orlav has control of Kantu's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Kantu regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Orlav with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Kantu shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Orlav as he avoids it easily.

Orlav darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Kantu wants to stand back up but Orlav manages to pass into side control.

Orlav is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kantu has escaped the position, nice work there.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kantu is working hard here to advance position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Orlav is staying tight to Kantu's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Kantu tries to strike but it doesn't land.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nice sprawl there from Orlav as Kantu shoots in.

Orlav decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kantu is looking to get back to is feet but Orlav passes into side control.
Orlav has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kantu trying to control but Orlav flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Orlav is hanging on to Kantu's back as he tries to escape.
Orlav looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Kantu turns into Orlav and is now in his guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Orlav can do anything to dispel that myth.
Orlav manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kantu manages to get himself to full guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gregor Orlav showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Kantu shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Orlav pinned against the cage. Orlav gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Orlav let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Ishmael Kantu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Orlav shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kantu is trying to defend but Orlav finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Kantu is trying to escape back to his feet but Orlav uses the scramble to pass into side control.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Orlav's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Kantu tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Orlav wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Orlav has control of an arm but Kantu manages to advance to Orlav's back!

Kantu doesn't have the hooks in and Orlav manages to turn into his guard.
Kantu looking to control but Orlav passes into half guard.
Orlav keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Orlav is keen to just control but Kantu is a slippery customer.

Let's hope that Orlav has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Gregor Orlav is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Orlav wants to take a breather but Kantu is having none of it.

Well Orlav has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
