PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 24226 p4p, 24154 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Way Nada was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 35 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 34 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Nada has a takedown stuffed.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kiang is defended easily by Nada.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nada shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kiang sprawls well. Kiang wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nada gets slowly back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kiang stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kiang wants it to stay on the feet.
Kiang jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Nada shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kiang as he avoids it easily.

Kiang shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Nada is pulling down on Kiang's head to control his posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kiang controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Kiang seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nada for as long as he can get away with.
Nada is controlling Kiang's posture.
Nada looking to control.
Kiang seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nada has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Kiang has passed into side control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Nada keeping his opponent close.
Kiang just content to control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Yawa Kiang dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Kiang fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Nada closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Kiang is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nada can do to turn this around?
Nada takes a little break here. Kiang wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Kiang struggling a bit here.

Kiang tries to bench press Nada off him but Nada keeps the position.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kiang sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Nada not doing much here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Nada fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Kiang gets a double leg takedown into Nada's guard.
Nada has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang wanted to stand there but Nada had control of the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

A close second round but Way Nada will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Nada is taking a breather. Kiang says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Nada seems to be working for a kimura but Kiang defends the submission attempt.
Nada keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Nada changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kiang tries to avoid it but Nada manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kiang to the ground. Kiang escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kiang thinks about countering with a body kick.
Kiang fails with the takedown.
Nada feints the counter takedown.
Nada shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kiang sprawls well. Kiang wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nada gets slowly back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Nada looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kiang throws a quick counter kick to the body but Nada avoids it.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.
Kiang has his takedown stuffed
and Nada counters with a nice body kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
Way Nada comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Nada has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
