PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Logan Cullen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Kendall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Kendall's choice of entrance music: Kool Moe Dee - I Go To Work. Logan Cullen has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Logan Cullen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kurt Kendall!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Franklyn Lucas and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cullen tries to clinch up but Kendall circles away and keeps his distance.
Cullen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kendall pinned against the cage. Kendall gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Cullen moves in looking to clinch but Kendall pushes him off.
Kendall shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Cullen counters by clinching up.
Cullen misses with a hook from the clinch.

Cullen jumps guard.
Cullen trying to control the position here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kendall pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cullen is keeping the position for now.

Kendall postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Cullen is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kendall, into his guard.

Kendall has an active guard here but Cullen has managed to pass into half guard.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Cullen passes into side control, despite Kendall's attempt to control the position.
Kendall is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Cullen wants to stand up but Kendall is controlling the position.

Kendall slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Cullen wants to pass the guard but Kendall is keeping the position.
Cullen is breathing heavily.

Cullen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Kendall looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Cullen avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Cullen trying to control the position from guard on top but Kendall is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kendall bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cullen's guard.
Kendall stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cullen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kendall is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Kendall drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kendall jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kurt Kendall will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Kendall closes the distance and clinches.
Cullen can't get the takedown.
Kendall dodges an elbow strike from Cullen.

Cullen is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kendall pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Cullen is working for takedown but Kendall is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Logan Cullen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kendall is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Kendall has Cullen pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Kendall pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Cullen tumbling to the mat - Kendall dives into Cullen's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kendall pushes down on Cullen's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Kendall missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Kendall wants to pass to mount but Cullen is defending the position.

Kendall is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cullen is just riding it out for now. Kendall eventually gives up the hold.

Kendall is working for a kimura but Cullen is defending it quite comfortably.
Kendall is taking a breather. Cullen says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Kendall is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cullen sees it coming and defends easily.
Kendall lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Kendall looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Cullen taking some punishment here, with Kendall in his half guard.
Kendall passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Cullen!
Kendall trying to control but Cullen is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cullen is wriggling around trying to escape.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kendall tries to control but Cullen wriggling away.

Kendall is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Cullen is surviving well by controlling Kendall's body position as best he can.

Kendall is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Cullen is forced to tap! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Kurt Kendall!
