Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dana Whyte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simppa Koivu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Whyte's entrance music is Imagine - John Lennon. A fine choice. Koivu comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Omnium gatherum - The Return kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Simppa Koivu has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dana Whyte! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Simppa Koivu! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Chad Campbell and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Whyte moves away from the strike by Koivu. Koivu throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Koivu pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Whyte decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Koivu wants to control but Whyte is keeping busy.
Whyte wants to pass to mount but Koivu is defending the position. Whyte thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Koivu to regain full guard. Koivu is trying to keep Whyte in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Whyte wants to control from the top but Koivu keeps moving. Whyte working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Whyte throws a big right hand that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whyte postures up in Koivu's guard and throws a big left but Koivu blocks it.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Koivu scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Whyte scores with a takedown into Koivu's guard. Koivu utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Koivu is trying to keep Whyte in close.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Whyte accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Koivu preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Whyte throws and elbow that misses. Koivu uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Whyte's guard. Nice move by Koivu! Koivu in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Whyte holds on and takes a little breather. Koivu trying to control the position from guard on top but Whyte is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Whyte walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Koivu connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Koivu misses with a wild body shot. Koivu misses the jab. Koivu throws a hook but Whyte blocks it. Whyte will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Whyte shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Whyte passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Koivu! Koivu is desperately trying to improve his position but Whyte has a good base and remains in mount. BOOM! Whyte connects with a massive shot to the dome!

That's four minutes gone in the round. Koivu is bucking up trying to escape but Whyte cracks him with another couple of good strikes. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Koivu tries to hold on but Whyte postures up. Whyte content just to control the position here. Whyte looking to ground and pound but Koivu is blocking nicely. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Koivu is in a horrible position here. Whyte smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Koivu is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dana Whyte dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Whyte looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Koivu is fending him off so far but Whyte persists. Nope, Koivu circles away and we're back to standing. Whyte misses with a head kick.
Koivu misses the jab. Koivu throws a looping overhand right but Whyte ducks down to avoid it. Koivu throws a leg kick but Whyte sees it coming and checks it nicely. Whyte misses with a double jab.
Whyte checks the leg kick. Koivu lunges at Whyte with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Whyte's hand. Koivu scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Koivu is looking to score with low kicks. Whyte fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Koivu sprawls well initially but Whyte persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Koivu keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Whyte not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Whyte is keen to just control but Koivu is a slippery customer. Whyte prevents Koivu from improving his position. Koivu gets back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whyte throwing strikes but missing. Whyte is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Dana Whyte overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Whyte got a little sloppy there for a moment and Koivu has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Whyte has managed to get both his arms back between Koivu's legs - danger averted. Whyte trying to control but Koivu is working from the bottom. Whyte trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Koivu trying to keep a closed guard but Whyte is proving a slippery customer.
Whyte throwing strikes from guard but Koivu blocks nicely. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Koivu wants to sweep but no luck. Whyte loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Koivu scores with a jab to the jaw. Koivu misses with a double jab.

Whyte moves away from the strike by Koivu. A swing and a miss from Koivu. Whyte fails with a takedown attempt. Koivu lands with a cross. Simppa Koivu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Koivu lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Whyte shoots in but Koivu avoids the takedown attempt easily. Koivu scores with a jab to the body. Koivu stuffs the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dana Whyte. That's going to take a lot out of him. Koivu throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Whyte stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Koivu looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Koivu throws a body punch but Whyte moves out of range. Nice straight punches there by Koivu. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Koivu. Koivu wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Koivu lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Koivu takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Koivu lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Koivu changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Whyte on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Koivu does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Koivu turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Good shot there by Koivu. Whyte walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whyte takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Koivu scores with a nice strike. Koivu lands a nice looking body shot.

Whyte is rocked! Whyte on the wrong end of a nice hook. Oh Whyte is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Koivu cracks Whyte with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Whyte tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Koivu pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Whyte is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Simppa Koivu! Simppa Koivu is the new super heavyweight champion!
