PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rayan Brandt (ranked 4396 p4p, 4125 weight class) and Danu Jaya (ranked 527 p4p, 503 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rayan Brandt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Danu Jaya!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Ivan Kurochkin and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jaya uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Brandt.
Jaya misses the shot to the body.
Brandt scores with a shot to the body.
Jaya lands with a right hand.
Brandt connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Jaya's hands.
Jaya takes one on the chin but seems OK.
The fighters circling - Brandt throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Jaya rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Brandt counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Jaya thinking.

Jaya's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Jaya duly obliges.

and Brandt counters with a straight right hand.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jaya. Brandt does a little dance to reset his feet.

Brandt throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jaya sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Jaya steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Brandt.

Jaya moves out of range as Brandt strikes.
Rayan Brandt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brandt throws a jab but it's blocked by Jaya.
Jaya moves out of range of the strikes.
Despite the aggression on Jaya's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Jaya looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Jaya gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Nice straight punches there by Brandt. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Brandt.
Brandt keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Brandt misses with a straight left.
Brandt is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Brandt throws a right and a left that Jaya avoids nicely.
Jaya tries to counter with a clinch but Brandt shakes him off and moves away.

Jaya unleashes a big counter combination but Brandt bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Jaya takes a swing at Brandt's ribcage but misses.
Jaya with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Brandt to score with a decent uppercut.

Brandt stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Brandt wants it to stay on the feet.
Brandt appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Rayan Brandt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Danu Jaya.

Brandt throws a hook to the side of Jaya's head but Jaya sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Jaya shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Brandt connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Brandt avoids a punch combination nicely.
Jaya is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Brandt rather than just go for the knockout.
Brandt scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brandt swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Jaya is trying to control. Brandt wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Jaya is trying to work for a kimura but Brandt is defending well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jaya is nestled in close to Brandt, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Brandt gets back to full guard.
Jaya sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Brandt will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Brandt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jaya doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jaya manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jaya stands and throws Brandt's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Brandt is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Jaya is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Brandt is pressing down on Jaya's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Jaya got a little sloppy there for a moment and Brandt has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jaya has managed to get both his arms back between Brandt's legs - danger averted.

Brandt wants to sweep here but Jaya controlling him for the moment.

Brandt throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Jaya escapes and throws Brandt's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Jaya wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brandt keeps working.
Brandt looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Danu Jaya will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Brandt was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

Rayan Brandt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Danu Jaya.
