PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stu Pendous (ranked 3238 p4p, 3900 weight class) and William Ward (ranked 354 p4p, 394 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Stu Pendous!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, William Ward!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ward goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
William Ward seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pendous throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A head kick by Ward misses
letting Pendous counter with a right hand.

It looks like William Ward has been cut.
Pendous ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Pendous scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Ward throws a leg kick which misses Pendous's front leg but catches the back leg as Pendous tries to avoid it.
Ward with a lazy takedown attempt
and Pendous makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ward lands a really nice looking cross but Pendous seems unphased.
Pendous tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Nice uppercut lands for Ward. That snapped Pendous's head back.
Ward shoots in looking for a takedown but Pendous manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ward's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Stu Pendous is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Ward throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

and Pendous counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Ward lands a leg kick that knocks Pendous off balance momentarily.
Pendous takes a kick to the side of the head.
Ward tries to score with a low kick but Pendous moves his leg out of the way.
Pendous seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Ward ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Ward with the counter takedown but Pendous avoids it easily.
Ward throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Pendous's head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ward tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pendous was well out of range. Poor timing from Ward.
Pendous walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

and Pendous counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Pendous takes a jab right on the kisser.
Pendous lands a jab to Ward's midsection.

and Pendous counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Pendous looks to score with a jab to the body but Ward is just out of range.
Ward scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Pendous doesn't seem bothered though.
Ward comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Ward bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Pendous is looking to wear down Ward with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Pendous throws an overhand right that lands on Ward's shoulder, as Ward tries to avoid the shot.
Ward scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Pendous doesn't seem bothered though.

Pendous uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

We've been informed that Ward has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Stu Pendous has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of William Ward.
Ward throws a series of punches but Pendous avoids them all with ease.
Ward lands the left hand.
Pendous lands with an uppercut that bounces Ward off the cage and back into range.

That has opened up William Ward's cut even more.

That was a close round but I would say that Stu Pendous will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

and Pendous counters with a crisp right hand that drops Ward! Pendous lets Ward back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
Ward is still on wobbly legs! Can Pendous finish him?
Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with each other but Ward might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Pendous has got the better of the exchanges.
Ward walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Pendous checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Ward seems to have recovered his senses.

Ward tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Ward fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Pendous looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Pendous throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ward drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Pendous defends it well.

and Pendous cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Pendous misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ward.

and Pendous counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

It looked like Pendous was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Ward.

Pendous needs to keep his hands up - Ward had a free shot at his head there.
Horrible takedown attempt by Ward or perhaps it was just good defense by Pendous, which made it look bad.

Ward shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Pendous's guard.
Pendous lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Pendous wants to stand and escape but instead Ward has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Ward is stalling in the full guard.
Pendous wants to stand up but Ward is controlling him.
Pendous avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ward stops Pendous from standing up.
Pendous knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ward on the ground.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pendous is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Ward stops Pendous from standing up.
Ward wants to control from the top but Pendous keeps moving.
Ward is working Pendous over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Pendous keeping full guard, as Ward tries to pass.
Pendous wants to get back to his feet but Ward is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Stu Pendous will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Pendous will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

It looked like Pendous was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Ward.

and Pendous counters with a series of strikes that practically lifts Ward off his feet! He tumbles backwards, his head bouncing off the mat - Pendous follows up with more strikes before the ref can step in but Ward was out before he hit the floor.
