PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ledley King (ranked 973 p4p, 925 weight class) and Calvin Deane (ranked 40 p4p, 50 weight class). Deane has chosen Cinderella Man as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ledley King!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Calvin Deane!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King scores with a jab. Deane acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
King lands with a slapping head kick.
King moves away from the strike by Deane.
Nice body punch from King.
Deane walks forward, straight into a front kick from King.
Deane shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says King as he avoids it easily.
King cracks a nice hook into Deane's ribs.
Deane throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around King's waist but King gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Deane off to one side.
Deane misses the jab.
Deane cracks King with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Deane fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ledley King has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Calvin Deane.
King throws a lazy right hand but Deane sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
King with a jab.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Deane drops his hands momentarily and King takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Deane shoots in and drives through. King sprawls well.

Deane closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming King to the mat! King manages to get full guard.
Deane must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Deane is fighting to break King's control of his arms but King is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
King is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

King wants to get back to his feet but Deane is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
King is trying to keep Deane in close.
King pulls Deane in close to prevent any damage.
Deane is looking to work some ground and pound but King has wrist control.
Deane scoring with punches to the head and body.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Deane is in close to King's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King wants to sweep but no luck.
Deane postures up in King's guard and throws a big left but King blocks it.
Deane is looking to work some ground and pound but King has wrist control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
King pulls Deane in to control the position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Deane landing with the ground and pound.
King looking for a sweep. Not yet King, not yet.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Deane's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
King working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Deane.
King is looking to stand up but Deane isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nice jab there from Deane.
Crunch! King slams his shin into Deane's torso.
Deane lands a jab to the nose.
Ledley King is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Deane shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with King but King pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Deane tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but King swivels and escapes.
Deane avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Deane scores with a jab to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King connects with a looping right hand.
Deane changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. King tries to avoid it but Deane manages to keep hold of a leg and drag King to the ground. King escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Deane shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as King sprawls well. King wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Deane gets slowly back to his feet.
Deane shoots in for a takedown but King shows good takedown defense.
King lands with a straight right. Deane didn't see that one coming.
King fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
King misses with a body shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from King. Deane does a little dance to reset his feet.
Deane defending well as King loads up on a big left hand.
Deane lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Deane tries for a takedown but King circles away easily

and King counters with a nice double leg into side control. Deane won't be happy with that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
King tries to stand but Deane is controlling his head.
King trying to control the action but Deane is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
King misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Deane avoids any damage from the ground and pound of King.
You can see the frustration on Deane's face as King controls the position.
King trying to control the action but Deane is working from the bottom.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ledley King dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Deane drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Deane in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Deane working some strikes from top position.
Deane trying to control the position from guard on top but King is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

King has his foot on Deane's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Deane works his way back into a safe position though.
King seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Deane chips away with some ground and pound.

Ledley King overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Deane landing some decent shots from guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Deane tries to free his leg and advance position but King is retaining full guard.
King looking to hit a scissor sweep but Deane is one step ahead there.

Deane postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
King utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Deane postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Deane gets to his feet and stands over King, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! King felt that one! Deane unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save King from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Calvin Deane!
Calvin Deane is the new super heavyweight champion!
After winning the bout, Calvin Deane thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
