PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Clifford Val Salvacion (ranked 23814 p4p, 24126 weight class) and Yawa Kiang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clifford Val Salvacion has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 47 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clifford Val Salvacion!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 36 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Salvacion goes for a double leg but Kiang avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kiang continues to drive forward.

Kiang is fighting off a takedown attempt but Salvacion is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Kiang to the mat. Kiang regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Kiang not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Salvacion throws a strike but Kiang rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Kiang stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Salvacion swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Kiang is looking to pass into half guard but Salvacion pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Salvacion is in guard.

Kiang managing to control the position.
Salvacion is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Kiang is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kiang is continuing to stall.
Salvacion not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Kiang pulls Salvacion in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Kiang fails with a takedown attempt.

Salvacion is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kiang's half guard.

Kiang wants to control but Salvacion is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

You can see the frustration on Kiang's face as Salvacion controls the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Clifford Val Salvacion dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Kiang doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Horrible takedown attempt by Kiang or perhaps it was just good defense by Salvacion, which made it look bad.
It appears Salvacion was looking to counter with a kick there.

Salvacion closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kiang did well to prevent Salvacion getting side control.
Salvacion is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kiang can do to turn this around?

Salvacion perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Salvacion is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Kiang tries to get to full guard but Salvacion has control of the leg.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kiang tries to clinch up but Salvacion circles away and keeps his distance.

Salvacion defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kiang.
Salvacion fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Salvacion displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kiang.
Clifford Val Salvacion has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yawa Kiang.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kiang shoots in but no luck this time.
And Salvacion counters with a quick kick to the body but Kiang blocks it.

Kiang feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kiang is standing up over Salvacion. Salvacion looks to escape but Kiang dives into side control.

Salvacion is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Kiang fails with the takedown
and Salvacion counters with a body kick that stops Kiang in his tracks momentarily.
Kiang throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Salvacion counters with a shoot takedown. Kiang fights it but they end up in guard.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kiang shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Salvacion as he jumps to the side.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Salvacion throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kiang was covering up waiting for the punch and Salvacion finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Kiang is pulling down on Salvacion's head to control his posture.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion postures up.
Salvacion engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Yawa Kiang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Salvacion throws a big right hand that misses.
Clifford Val Salvacion is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Kiang throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

And that's the end of the fight!
Clifford Val Salvacion showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Salvacion has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
