PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nick Mullen (ranked 2994 p4p, 3221 weight class) and William Wallace (ranked 334 p4p, 350 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nick Mullen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, William Wallace!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Viktor Lagutenko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mullen throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Wallace stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Wallace has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Mullen lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Wallace dives in and scores a takedown into Mullen's guard.
Wallace trying to control but Mullen is working from the bottom.
Wallace throws a big right hand that misses.
Wallace looking to sit in guard and control but Mullen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mullen tries to stand but Wallace is controlling from the bottom.

Wallace has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mullen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Mullen gets to his feet - Wallace follows without any prompting.
Mullen keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mullen has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Wallace dives in and grabs Mullen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mullen pushes down on Wallace's head and hops out.

Mullen smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Wallace shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mullen pinned against the cage. Mullen gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Wallace drives through with a takedown into Mullen's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Wallace feints and as Mullen raises his hands in defense, Wallace changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Wallace stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mullen swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Wallace tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Wallace has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Mullen regains half guard.
Nick Mullen is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Wallace is working for a kimura but Mullen is defending it quite comfortably.

Wallace is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wallace wants to take a breather but Mullen is having none of it.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mullen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
